Uniform Update

Uniform amendments : supporting connection to our school community

We continue to see many students wearing our uniform correctly and with pride. It is important to remind the school community that Northcote High School has a uniform for the following reasons:

  • A uniform creates a sense of belonging and connection to our school community. Many students report that wearing the uniform signifies a sense of belonging and pride in our school.
  • Students who attend our school can be easily identified which creates a safe and secure learning environment
  • All students have a right to feel included and accepted in our school without having to worry about what they wear each day
  • When students wear the uniform they positively represent our school in the broader community

In late 2021 and earlier this year students and families provided feedback regarding our uniform regarding comfort and warmth. We want to respond to this feedback and have decided to apply the following changes and seek your support to ensure that students continue to feel a sense of belonging, safety and inclusion within our community.

The following changes will apply from Term 2:

Sports uniform

  • Year 7&8 Sports uniform should be worn on the days students have Sport and PE practical classes. Academic uniform at all other days of the week.
  • Year 9-12 Sports uniform may be worn all day and any day of the week – this is due to the variety of practical subjects being offered at these year levels

All black leggings may be worn with the sports top (no visible logos). Our uniform supplier (Noone) will be offering this optional uniform item for purchase in the coming weeks. Students who prefer to continue to wear the sports shorts are encouraged to do so.

Second hand uniform

We are in consultation with Bocca Foods who have a second hand uniform service. Families will be able to donate and purchase uniform items from this service. Information about this will be communicated soon.

Some changes to our out of uniform process

The majority of students easily follow our process when they are out of uniform. We have made the some changes to streamline our process and believe that students are provided with multiple opportunities to meet our school wide expectations. If you require support to purchase the uniform please contact the relevant year level teams who will discuss the support we can provide. Please refer to the process attached.
