Principal's Message

Currently there are many families visiting St Martin's as they prepare to make a significant decision about their child's educational future and choose a school that they think is the best fit and offers the most opportunities for their child to fully flourish.

Usually Dan speaks with them and takes them on a school tour. As Dan recovers from COVID, I have taken families into our learning spaces and around our playing spaces.

I now know why Dan holds onto this job so tightly!

I felt myself filled with pride as students warmly and spontaneously said hello and welcome to visitors. Their smiles and engagement in learning, their calm and respectful way of being and  their focus on doing and being their best, were all evident to visitors. The quiet, learning focussed atmosphere and the pleasant and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces were commented on by every visitor.

As I described the variety of experiences our SMDP students have had in just this one term, I was struck by the breadth and depth of learning we facilitate.

Four classes have completed a nine day intensive swim program, our Year Six student leaders attended a Young Leaders Conference at the Melbourne Exhibition and Conference Centre, Year Five students participated in a secondary school immersion day at Emmanuel College and our seniors participated in interschool sports tournaments competing in tennis and basketball. Every student has learnt circus skills and prepared for a performance.

Glancing at the Term Two schedule there is camp for the Year Three/Four students and another for the Year Five/Sixes, a skateboarding workshop in the carpark, an interschool cross country competition, an excursion to the Zoo for Prep/One/Two classes and to the National Gallery of Victoria for the Year Three/Fours.

We are certainly getting back to normal where school is a vibrant and full experience for learners.

Cirque de Porres

Excitement is building for a performance three years in the making! We first planned to have the Circus Crew work with us in 2020 and rescheduled to 2021 when COVID first interrupted our plans. Again we pushed it out last year in 2021 when we were unable to gather in person to celebrate the joy that a school performance brings.

But the countdown is on.

Next Thursday in Queen of Peace hall, all our students will present a colourful and joyful circus show.

Tickets are now available via this link https://www.trybooking.com/888107or by using this QR code

As per government guidelines, all people over 13 years, attending this event are required to show full vaccination status.

Students must be at Queen of Peace hall @ 6:30pm. The show will begin @ 7pm and finish by 9pm.

If this means our younger students are a little tired the next morning, they can come into school at 10am.

Holy Week and Easter

We approach holy week, the holiest week in our Catholic tradition. As a Catholic school we learn about the events that took place on the four significant days; Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. This is at the very centre of our Catholic beliefs.

Students will present prayerful reflections on each day through role play, song and prayer. Preparing and experiencing these active prayer opportunities provides students with an authentic integration of faith, life and culture.

May the greatest gift of Easter, hope be with you and your families.

Warm Regards,

Denise Kelly

Acting Principal | Learning & Teaching Leader
