ABC Award Winners

Congratulations to our ABC award winners from a couple of weeks ago - Charlotte, Amalea, Isla, and Roxy.

Japanese Day

Last Friday was an amazing celebration down at Buninyong for Japanese Day. Students participated in a range of activities across the day, including drumming and martial arts workshops, zen gardens, Japanese craft and Undoukai sports activities. It was wonderful to see the Scotsburn students get into the theme of the day, and we were so proud of the way all students integrated into the Buninyong classrooms for the day.

A massive thank you and well done to Liz and Terri for all of their hard work in organising and coordinating the day. Have a look at the link below for some Scotsburn photos from the day:

Swimming

Next week is Scotsburn’s turn for swimming at Federation University. We look forward to heading down each day from Monday - Friday to participate in some lessons. Your child should have brought home a note regarding approximate swimming levels of your child/children. This will assist the instructors in placing your child at the appropriate level. We ask that these notes be returned by Thursday as they will be collected by the University on Friday.

Our specific lesson times are between 12.30pm - 1.15pm, with the bus leaving Scotsburn at approximately 11.45am, and returning each day at approximately 2pm. We will be adjusting our eating and break times next week to fit around these times.

Students are to come each day in normal school uniform, with a swimming bag containing swimming clothes, a towel and goggles. If you have any questions prior to next week, please come and see your child’s teacher over the next few days.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Grandparents and Special Friends Day is creeping up on us, with it only being a few weeks away now! This has traditionally been a highlight on the calendar, and with it missing over the last few years due to Covid, we can’t wait to have the day back. The day will run on Friday 25th November, from 9am - 11am at the Scotsburn campus, with some interactive activities planned for the grandparents and special friends to get involved in.

We are also asking that parents could please bring a plate for morning tea on the day, which we will hold in the old building between 11am - 11.30am. Keep an eye out next week for a personalised invitation to be sent home!

Remembrance Day Scotsburn Assembly

This Friday we will be holding a special Remembrance Day assembly. This is a significant day on our calendar and we would love to hold a formal assembly to pay our respects as a campus. Hopefully the weather is kind to us and we can hold the assembly on the concrete in front of our flag and Lone Pine tree. We would love to see any parents that can make it in attendance.

End of Year Scotsburn Concert and Picnic - KEEP IN THE CALENDAR!

With the school year finishing on a Tuesday this year, we have needed to move the end of year concert and picnic to the 17th of December, which is Friday of Week 11. We will also be running the concert in an earlier time slot, during the school day between 2pm - 4pm. We understand that this may make it a little difficult for some working parents, however with time to plan, we hope arrangements can be made. We were also very conscious of events that may be planned on Friday nights at that time of the year, so hopefully this can work around those. Over the next month, you will receive lots more information regarding end of year arrangements, however we wanted to have this one locked in the calendar for everyone!

Transition Mornings

We have held our last transition morning however look forward to seeing everyone again on Orientation Day. This is such an important opportunity for children to participate in, from both a kindergarten and school perspective.

Buninyong’s Uniting Kindergarten along with Buninyong Primary School, including Scotsburn Campus, has recently been nominated as a finalist for the 2022 Victorian Early Years Award for our involvement in improving engagement in learning, supporting parents, building collaborative community partnerships, improving child health and wellbeing, exemplary practice in early childhood education, leadership and significant improvement on learning and teaching practices. The evening of Wednesday 9th November, I will be attending an awards ceremony for an action research project that we worked on to create a positive outcome for students transitioning to school. We are very excited to continue this great partnership.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

We have been  in full swing of getting lots of assessments completed and celebrating all our learning from throughout the year. It is wonderful to see the students look at this opportunity to acknowledge how much learning they have achieved and celebrate all their efforts.

Last  Friday we had a visit from Suzie (Wil’s mum) who is a paramedic. She brought along the educational ambulance to show the students all the equipment inside the ambulance as well as relieve some of those worries if there was ever a time an ambulance ride was needed. Students met Stretch the teddy and performed some duties a paramedic encounters by wrapping him in some bandages. Thanks, Suzie, for coming along and sharing with us all the wonderful things you do for our community as a paramedic!

Have a wonderful week.

Thanks,

Ana

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Last week SC2 welcomed Chengatai Jera into the classroom while Dani was away. The students did a super job welcoming Chegatai into the classroom and the campus, and she loved her time with us. It was wonderful to see the students showing someone new the way we do things at the campus and being helpful.

We welcome back Mrs Eddy this week, who looks to have brought the sun back with her - you beauty!

SC3 Learning Snapshot

SC3 have finally caught our breath after a busy first half of the term. We have managed to fit in 5/6  Camp, Sovereign Hill immersion experience and Japanese day, as well as complete a range of assessments in the classroom. Everyone should be super proud of the way they have maintained their organisation and expected learning behaviours.

This week we welcome some UK student teacher visitors, Anotina and Beth, who will be with us for the next two weeks. On Monday, Antonia played some fun relationship-building games with SC3.

As part of our Respectful Relationships program and with the yard still being so wet, in SC3 we have been spending some time on problem solving in the yard, including how we can make new games and include everyone in them. It was brilliant to see some SC3 students set up a modified game of badminton at lunch on Monday, and work through negotiated rules and allow all to play. Keep up the great work team!

Have another great week everyone,

Jarrod
