Library News

I want to congratulate Dolma Tentso and Lillie Patterson who completed the Premier’s

Reading Challenge this year and have received their completion certificates. Both students are to be congratulated for taking on the challenge and keeping a consistent reading schedule to ensure they were successful. Any students wishing to be part of the challenge next year will be able to include any books read now and into the new year.

The summer holidays are a great time to read. This is also beneficial to do, so that teenagers do not lose any gains in fluency or their reading levels that they’ve made over this year. In week 10, students are encouraged to come to the library to borrow any novels, manga, or books of interest to read over the holiday break.

The e-book platform, https://henrykendah.eplatform.co/ can also be accessed at any time during the holidays. Some great new titles have just been added as well.

Enjoying reading and making connections with the library this term was Year 7 who have been undertaking a literature study in English. I was very fortunate to be able to run a book speed date event with Miss Jackson’s 7Y class. Students had the opportunity to spend time browsing and reading a range of the library’s collection. This is great for extending student choice and giving them a chance to try out different genres, forms and find great stories that may be overlooked as they don’t have the most visually captivating cover. I look forward to helping them over the course of their school journey to uncover their reader identity.

Earlier this term the library ran its annual Spooktacular Trivia for Halloween. A fantastic and fun event that had a great turn out of teams. This year's winners were from Year 9 and they did a great job at communicating and collaborating to come away with the prize. This year students could also enter a two-sentence horror story writing competition. There were some fantastic entries, with the prize of a twenty-dollar book voucher going to Kristina Uvarova.

Creative Writing Club has been ongoing every Friday and some great pieces have been composed. Students can join the Google Classroom, even if they are not members, so they can access information regarding writing competitions across the year and for writing prompts they can use during the holiday breaks.

The Term 4 library raffle has been drawn twice this term, with the winners Sophie Arendse and Daijah Wilden able to select an item from our prize stash. The raffle will restart in 2023 with students receiving one entry for each book they borrow, renew or return.

And finally, I want to say a thank you to our library leaders for all of their work in the library and promoting reading this year. They have been amazing, and their dedication is appreciated.
