Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Well Year 7 have finally made it to the end of their first year of high school. This term has been very busy with report writing season well on its way. It was an extremely stressful term for Year 7 with numerous assessment tasks needing to be completed all at the same time, however WE DID IT!!

We had our Welfare Day, where we discussed some relevant issues throughout the day. It started with a White Ribbon Day Assembly, then into a 'Say no to Vaping' presentation, followed by 'The Power of Words' presentation around bullying, then we ended the day with some Dodgeball and activities down under the Cola.

The students seem to have a great day, there were some tears as we touched on some sensitive topics, but we persevered and built resilience. You have made me one very proud Year Adviser.

Speaking of proud, our $20 Boss Day was a huge success. At the last minute I had to grab the reins of this project as Mrs Woodland and Mr Herring unfortunately tested positive to COVID only 2 days before show time. However without all their hard work and efforts in the background we could not have had the amazing success story we did. In total we raised $1964.95 which will all be going towards a chosen charity. Congratulations to Blended Bliss with Tasmin Gott, Sairsha Jagger, Katherine Gordon & Lily Lopez who were the overall winners with the most profit made.......a whopping $255.85. Well done ladies!!

It was so great to see Gosford Primary School and many parents turn up for the day. I know Year 7 greatly appreciated your support as it made their day.

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and well rested break, ready to attack Year 8. Make sure you start the year fresh with new books and a can do attitude. Can't wait to see you all already.

See you all in 2023 🙂

Congratulations Year 9 on finishing your first year of High School with only face to face learning! Although the year was still impacted by Covid at times, you have all done fantastic work throughout the year. You have made me, your teachers and families very proud. Well done!

This year I had the chance to see so many of you step up and show your leadership and mentor qualities. With two peer support training days, the Year 6 Star Program, and a leadership day in Sydney, you had a chance to develop skills and gain knowledge on what it takes to be a great leader.

In Week 6 this term, Lily Arendse, Lily Els, Elliot Hollas, Pavani Pathak, Caleb Perkins, and Angus Potter, had the opportunity to compete in the Illuminate Enterprise Challenge at the University of Newcastle. Competing against not only a Year 10 team from Henry Kendall High School but also many other schools from across the Central Coast. The challenge ran for a week and ended in a presentation evening, where teachers, family, friends, and the public were able to vote for their favourite business enterprise. Excitingly they won Best Pitch and came 3rd overall. What a fantastic effort from all six students.

A big congratulations also to Ari Dunn who has designed a new Cooinda Shirt. Her shirt design was inspired by a local whale dreaming story from Uncle Gavi Duncan. Teachers have been lucky enough to be able to purchase the shirts this term and all of us are wearing them with pride. Students will be able to purchase the shirts from next year as a sport shirt. Well done, Ari your design will be around for many years to come.

As we go into the holidays and preparing for Year 10, I am asking all Year 9 to reflect on their past three years of high school. You are halfway through your high schooling so could you put your thoughts about the last 3 years on the ‘Google Form’ found on our Google Classroom. These answers will then help with our Year 12 yearbook, and I will individually give you your reflections in Year 12. Each year I will continue to put a form up to reflect, a great way to preserve your memories.

I wish all Year 9 students and their families a lovely, safe holiday and I am looking forward to a busy but fantastic year in 2024.

Congratulations to the Class of 2023 on the completion of their first term of Year 12 HSC content! Year 12 have been incredibly busy with assessment tasks in the last few weeks of the term and the vast majority of students have approached them with maturity and in a responsible manner. They have well and truly earned a rest over the summer holidays (with some revision and holiday homework to keep them on track too).

We get to end this massive year in the best way possible – with three days at the Great Aussie Bush camp to complete the Life Ready course and to have the greatest, most fun bonding experience. At the time of writing we have not left yet, but based on how entertaining and enthusiastic the year are, I’m sure we are going to return tired but very happy and full of fun anecdotes.

As we end this year, another congratulations must be given to the year group for completing their first full, normal year of schooling since they were in Year 8 and for doing so in such a high stakes time for them. I am incredibly proud of their growth and perseverance and can’t wait to see what next year holds for them; although I already know I will not be ready to say good bye to them when they graduate!
