Last week Lilly Clarke represented the school as a member of the NSW U15 All Schools Touch Team. Lilly had a fantastic week away and really did the school proud over the week. A massive congratulations to Lilly who is now a National Champion after the NSW side took out a hotly contested final against Queensland 7-5. A fantastic achievement for a student who has demonstrated commitment towards her chosen sport and worked hard to achieve her goals.
Some of the results from last week can be seen below, The KWS 1st boys have had their first defeat and KWS 1st girls also had a narrow loss. Often, we learn more from a defeat then we do from a win. There have been a few close games in the last few weeks and it’s good to see that the competition is close. All fixtures and travel arrangements are now going through the HUB.

Round 3 (05/11)
On the weekend, the KWS ISA Tennis team travelled to Lithgow for the first time in the competition to compete against Blue Mountains Grammar School (BMGS). Being Round 3 of the competition all schools and players were now into the rhythm of the fast 4 set up and some very competitive tennis was played. The KWS Odds team had their work cut out for them with some very close matches in both the singles and the doubles. KWS Odds secured a win, beating BMGS Odds team 12 sets to 8. The KWS Evens team showed their dominance from the beginning, winning most of the matches they played. KWS Evens came away with a convincing win of 17 sets to 2. Both teams should be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves during their campaign and the humility and sportsmanship they showed during all matches.
A special mention goes to Laura Wood who had her debut in the ISA Team. She came away with a convincing win in her singles match winning both sets.
A special congratulation also goes to Kaydn McLachlan who has been invited to attend the Central West Champion of Champions tournament that is being held in Parkes this year. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, Kaydn is unable to attend but he would have been playing in the under 18’s division. This is an incredible feat, and we congratulate Kaydn on his selection.

KWS7 (Camels) vs SAS7:
KWS came up against a strong SAS side this week, who had strong wins in the previous weeks.
It was a tightly contested game with the Camels defending extremely well throughout the game, particularly Maddie Taylor and Sophie Stanifoth who chased down many of the SAS attacking plays and shut them down.
In attack, strong runs from many players including Ally Ward, Rhani Jarick and Maya Doyle opened the game up for the Camels to spread the ball wide, with Lily Smith displaying a great pair of hands on the wing.
In the end the speed of a few key SAS players proved the difference, with SAS taking the win.
A great team effort from the Camels.
Final Score: KWS7 - 0 v SAS7 -2.

KWS8 (Ducks) v CCGS8
The Ducks took a win from Central Coast Grammar with an excellent all round performance from the team.
All the Ducks tries came from our wingers, Maggie Gutterson, Lucy Baldwinson and Maggie Hall who all showed good pace to capitalise on great ball movement out of the middle.
Our link players worked well, Isabel Grout had multiple line-break assists and Isabella Brennan leading the way in her defensive efforts.
A great win for the mighty Ducks.
Final score: KWS8 - 3 v CCGS8 - 1

KWS 3 (Alpacas) vs CCGS 3
KWS Inter A’s played an absolutely cracking game against Central Coast Grammar at Bathurst on Saturday. The Inters were quick to put one on the board scoring a try in the first set of the game, this was closely followed by the 2nd in the following set. The girls worked extremely hard in defence to keep Central Coast out. A well worked offensive move led to the 3rd try. CCGS put their first try on the board just before half time. Going into the second half the girls were tired but determined to secure the win. CCGS scored for the second time bringing the score a bit closer. The girls held their heads high and kept fighting, this resulted in a cracking try, which was backed up by another a few sets later, this brought the score to 5-3. In the last 30secs CCGS scored a good try on the wing, this was the final try of the game ending in a score of 5-4 KWS’S way.
Great job girls, good hustle.

KWS 2 (DIV 2) vs CCGS 2
Another cracking game played by KWS 2 playing against Central Coast Grammar. Tessa Lawson only having played three games of touch ever scored her first try. The weather was hot making the game a bit of a challenge however, Lily Bruce played up scoring a great try in the second half to bring the score to 8-2. Phoebe Smith scored her 5th try of the game making the final score 9-2. Amanda Roach made some try saving touches on the wing and came so close to scoring many tries. Minnie Whittle’s speed was much needed in many plays to move the team up the field and make meters. Eden Hawker and Phoebe Smith played straight after their game with first grade and carried the team with the support of everyone to victory. Awesome game played by all and a big thank you to our coach Mack for the support and enthusiasm towards the team.

KWS 1 (DIV 1) vs CCGS 1
KWS 1, whilst short several team members, had an amazing game against Central Coast Grammar, getting the win 15-0.
Phoebe Smith, Eden Hawker and Claudia Mason all played up for our team, having an incredible impact on the game. We were all very grateful for their input and very impressed with their commitment. With our superstar player Lilly Clarke back in the game, her and Abbey Kiss were able to split the defence up the middle with their strong running game, allowing the team to increase the score line. Brooke Rayner and Annabelle Cooper stepped up, both scoring themselves some tries off the back of their speed and deception. As every week, Airlie Mason and Katie Ivey carried the team through their amazing attack and defence.
Overall, our team is improving with every game thanks to the expertise and encouragement from our coach Joel.
Heidi Ferguson
KWS 6 (Butterfly's) vs CCGS 6

The tries this week were scored by Eadie Wilson, Charlotte Mulchay, Eva Bonnington, Rhani Jarick and Claudia Staniforth. We are excited for next weekend.

Week 4, Term 4
Wiburd Shield Cricket
Good luck to the Wiburd cricketers who are playing Pacific Hills Christian School on Sally Kennett Oval this week. It is fantastic to be able to host visiting schools again and really makes the school feel like its usual busy self. At the time of writing the young cricketers had made a good start to the game making 140 off their 40 overs on a slow Sally Kennett field. Well done to Jonathan Gee with 47 not out.
Cricket can be, at times, a game in which patience can be the deciding factor. This fortnight, our students’ patience has been on display in spades. As we draw toward the end of Week 5, we are yet to have had a full week of training and fixtures. I commend our students and coaches on their positivity and adaptability in these testing conditions. We are lucky to attend a School with such great facilities, and it was great to see our own indoor cricket nets (pictured below) used for some wet weather training this fortnight.
Although there has been little cricket played thus far, I would like to recognise those students selected to play in each of the school’s representative teams. I congratulate these students (below), and encourage those who have narrowly missed out on selection to keep training hard, and pushing their case for selection.

Reports:
1stXI vs Orange City
Kinross 1st XI got back on the field after a couple of weeks of washouts preparing to face Orange City on Sally Kennett. Orange City won the toss and elected to bowl first sending Kinross into bat.
Kinross started off the innings with W Waterson and A Pengilly opening the batting. City started off strong in the field bowling good areas and backing it up in the field, Waterson, and Pengilly both used their defence effectively seeing out the new ball before both unfortunately falling to good bowling and fielding by City. This brought D Shepherd and W Prowse to the crease who both steadied the ship and started to build a good partnership and seeing us through to drinks. Shepherd and Prowse continued their partnership after drinks before Shepherd was caught after a well-made 52. Prowse continued on with the help of H Brazier before both were run out. Condon and Priest then came to the crease and with some good running between wickets and the ability to find the boundary increased the run rate. Condon was then dismissed late in the innings by a sharp catch which brought Litchfield to the crease who continued the strong running between wickets. Priest finished on 61 not out and with good contributions from the middle order pushed Kinross up to a competitive total of 6/183.
C Condon and W Prowse opened up the bowling showing good execution of plans hitting tight areas and moving the ball through the air. With few runs coming and an early wicket from Prowse, this gave Kinross the front foot. City managed to steady after an early wicket before L McKenzie found the outside edge with a sharp catch by D Shepherd at 1st slip giving us our second. City then steadied again after the wicket getting closer to drinks before good fielding Combination with W Waterson and J Harding saw City lose their 3rd wicket just before drinks. After drinks, C Anderson and D Shepherd came onto bowl with some quality spin the run rate slowed right down, and Shepherd took 2 crucial wickets to get Kinross well and truly bowling at the tail. Prowse and Condon then came onto bowl to finish off the innings continuing on with their tight areas and Condon and Prowse both picked up 2 late wickets to get city 9 down before finishing off the game with city getting to 9/173 giving Kinross a 10-run win.

U15 KWS v Orange City Gladiators
It was a nice sunny day and KWS won the toss and elected to bowl on a very green Jack Brabham wicket. The innings began with Will Younghusband and Robbie Heath opening the bowling. Both of them bowled really well restricting them to only 1 run for 2 wickets after 8 overs. Then came on the change bowlers, picking up some key wickets and bowling them all out for a total of 22. The fielding was excellent with the team taking 4 catches, and not bowling a sundry until the 12th over.
The batting began with a few early wickets, as the team adjusted to the slow wicket. When Jonny Gee and Ashton Nock came into bat they held the innings together with Jonny (4* not out) and Ashton (9* not out) chasing the runs down in 17 overs with a total of 5 wickets falling.

U14 KWS Sixers vs CYMS Gold
KWS Sixers played some good all-round cricket to record a win against CYMS on Saturday.
Batting first after winning the toss the Sixers scored 131 for 6 from their 30 overs. This was a big improvement on the 49 all out against the Thunder in the monsoonal conditions of Round 2. It was also quite remarkable considering that the Sixers did not get off to a great start and lost early wickets to the point where the score was 3 for 12 after 6 overs. The Sixers total was built around Fletcher Byrne’s 25, Charlie O’Brien’s 24 not out and Phoebe Johnston’s 18 not out. All three batted with a great deal of maturity and played some nice shots to all parts. Most importantly they ran between wickets very well and never allowed the CYMS bowlers to build pressure on them.
Although he did not make a double figure score Henry Luelf should also be commended on his overall approach with the bat. He came to the wicket after the loss of those early wickets and took the score to 41 thanks to a good partnership with Fletcher.
The Sixers then put in a great effort with the ball and in the field to dismiss CYMS for 34 in 17.4 overs. All bowlers deserve credit for the way that they went about their work. The fast bowlers – Digby Connell Hewlett, Henry Luelf, Marco Orme Smith and Sid Weston - all hit some good lengths and the spinners – Ollie Garard, Fletcher Byrne, Phoebe Johnston and Charlie O’Brien - all spun the ball hard and posed real problems for the CYMS batsmen with flight and turn. These efforts were well supported by some good fielding and the catches taken by Jack Whiteley, Sid Weston and Henry Luelf were especially impressive in their own way.
Thanks to the parents and others who supported the team on the day.
Special thanks go to Mr Johnston for his help with scoring.
Well done Sixers but we can still get better with putting bad balls away, improving bowling lines and making sure throws go the right end.
Mr. Bruce Kerridge
U14 Sixers Coach
George Hogg and Will Ward competed in Canberra on Saturday October 29th. Due to the weather conditions the event was changed to a duathlon. George experienced the dreaded flat tyre and ran quite a few kms with his bike before actually starting the run. Demonstrating true grit and determination George still finished the race. Will had a fantastic day out, winning his category, a great start to the season. Very proud of both of them.
The weather has meant lots of indoor training of late but we are looking forward to some exciting events ahead including this weekend’s Orange Triathlon Club event at Gosling Creek.
