Science Week

Healesville High School recently celebrated National Science week. During lunch time we had activities running where students could come along and enjoy the world of science. We investigated numerous topics, covering biology, physics, chemistry and STEM. Monday was the amazing world of biology where students looked at the human body.

We looked at body systems using a smart t-shirt and other activities looking at our senses. Tuesday was all about Physics. Students tested how steady their hand was while playing games and we saw their hair stand on its end, using the Van Der Graff Generator.

Wednesday was Chemistry while we had a focus on footy colours. We gave cryptic clues while mixing chemicals together to see which AFL teams were created. We also looked into what elephants use for toothpaste. These grabbed everyone’s attention and students had fun with foam at the end.

Thursday was a general science day where we played minor games of bingo and matching games where rewards were given to the winning students. Students also used the microscopes where they got to look at different organisms.

Friday was all about STEM. Students got to use the cotton cars and STEM kits.

Science week was a huge success with the students having opportunities to let their mind explore the science world.
