Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

This week we keep all of our students who are undertaking VCE Unit 4 external examinations in our thoughts and prayers. A large number of Year 12 students have been coming into school to study for their exams and receive assistance from their teachers and I have been very impressed with the amount of preparation they are doing. While we all know that exam results don’t define a person, we do wish the students every success with these important assessments.

The College has managed to secure a date in April 2023 for the Year 10 Top End Tour. The previous September date has resulted in students having to choose between sporting finals and the trip so moving it to April will avoid any such clashes. The change in date will mean that the weather conditions could be different, but we hope this doesn’t prevent any of the regular activities taking place.

The earlier date also reduces the time available for students and their families to make preparations for the cost of the trip so we hope this doesn’t prevent any current Year 9 students from being able to apply. With the earlier date we need to start organising this trip now so Year 9 students were provided with information about the trip today and families will receive this same information this week.

Last week we participated in the Respect Cup. The Respect Cup is a sporting competition between Trinity College, Mercy College Camperdown and Emmanuel College Warnambool. This year the students took part in a Netball competition and while we didn’t quite manage to beat Emmanuel in the final, all students enjoyed the event and all games were played in great spirit.

In addition to the Netball games, Lily Fountain from Year 9 presented her PBL project on discrimination towards members of the LBTGTQI community in the workplace to the students from all three schools.  Lily’s project saw her visit 10 Colac workplaces and ask them to sign a pledge that they would not stand for discrimination in their workplaces towards members of the LGBTIQ community. This week Lily has been invited to present her project to the Chamber of Commerce, which is a fantastic achievement.

A reminder to all families that Monday of next week is a scheduled professional learning day for all staff at the College which will result in the office being closed, and Tuesday is a Public Holiday for the Melbourne Cup. Hopefully many of our families will get the opportunity to have a four-day long weekend together.
