Year 10 Top End Trip
Late in Term 3 a group of eager and excited Year 10 students flew to Uluru and travelled along the Stuart Highway to Darwin by bus.
The first couple of days were spent walking and admiring the base of Uluru and Kata Tjuta (Olgas). A sunset viewing of the Rock capped off these breathtaking experiences.
The following day involved a relatively short 3-hour drive to Kings Canyon camping ground for an afternoon Kings Canyon rim walk. The panoramic scenery of an ancient land was awesome.
The 2000km Stuart Highway journey was broken up by stops at Katherine, Mataranka Springs, Devil’s Marbles, Alice Springs, Kakadu, Litchfield and Daly Waters.
Highlights of the trip included:
- Katherine Gorge boat trip, canoeing, swimming and helicopter rides. Sunset over Katherine Gorge.
- Edith Falls swim.
- Swimming in the Matararanka thermal pool.
- Lunch at the Devils’s Marbles.
- Crocodiles and snakes at the Alice Springs reptile park
- Kakadu – Crocs at Cahill’s Crossing, Sunset at Ubirr Rock, Yellow Waters sunrise cruise, Nourlangie Rock art.
- Litchfield – Swimming and snorkelling at Florence Falls. Walking through the forest to the carpark, termite mounds.
- Darwin – Military Museum, Royal Flying Doctor tourist facility, Stokes Wharf, Mendel Market.
- Swimming in the resorts’ pool.
- The hot and humid weather. Camping.
