Year 1 News

Our days at school have been fun filled over the past fortnight. We have participated in and enjoyed being part of the whole school community again.

A massive thank you to our Year 1 parents Cathryn Verlaan and Bianca Pieske, as well as their team of helpers, for putting together an afternoon of fun and frivolity with our recent Colour Run. The Year One students thoroughly enjoyed their first BNPS Colour Run experience. The sliming saw much excitement in the school yard. Mrs Horler and Ms Maddison ended up drenched in slime, but were good sports, with high hopes of raising funds for our new school playground. Enjoy the video that we have created for your viewing pleasure.

“I liked getting splashed with water at the same time as getting hit with colour. It was so funny to watch each teacher be slimed in front of the school. I didn’t think each teacher would have a bucket of slime poured on them each!” Marcus 1A

“At the school’s colour run I enjoyed getting sprayed with colours with my friends.” Annabel 1B

“It was really fun but I accidentally got colour everywhere!” Phoebe. P 1C

“I loved when they sprayed the water and colour on us. The bubbles at the end made it extra fun too.” Charlie 1D

Last week we were honoured to be guests at the Remembrance Day Service ran ably by our Year 6 students. We hope you enjoy watching our little video of the children respectively planting their paper poppies in honour of those soldiers who died fighting to protect our nation.

Literacy

We have continued focussing on narrative texts in Literacy this past fortnight and the students have enjoyed the process involved in planning a story, including creating characters, a setting, plot and resolution. The students will be completing their narratives over coming days.

Our Language and Conventions focus this week has been suffixes. The students have enjoyed implementing their SMART Spelling Yellow Rule “When a word ends in ‘e’, drop the ‘e’ and add a vowel suffix”. Go ahead and ask your child to explain to you what a suffix is!

This week the Year One students enjoyed using the iPads to listen to narrative stories written and narrated by the Year 3 students.

Maths

Over the past fortnight we have introduced multiplication and repeated addition. The students enjoyed finding examples of repeated addition within their classrooms and applying their knowledge to formulate multiplication problems.

In Measurement and Geometry, we have continued looking at time. The students have engaged in a range of interactive games and activities, telling the time to the hour and half hour with both a digital and analogue clock.

Treehouse

Term 4 has seen lots of more learning fun in the Treehouse.

Well done everyone!

Mrs Vawdrey.
