Principals' Update

Week 5

We are looking forward to warmer weather over the weekend and next week. We expect that  many of our classes may take the opportunity to move out to some of our outdoor learning spaces to take advantage of the sunny days. We will be keeping our eyes on the daily pollen count. If your child suffers from asthma or allergies please make sure that First Aid has received an up to date asthma or allergy plan and medication for your child.

Colour Run Next Tuesday 8 November

We are excited to be holding our 2nd Colour Run on Tuesday at 2:00pm. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is indicating that the weather will be sunny and 28 degrees. We encourage all students participating to remember to bring their drink bottle, wear SunSmart clothing and a hat. Last year’s Colour Run was an awesome community event and raised $18,928 for the school.

Junior School Toilets and Future Works

We are very pleased to share that the newly refurbished Junior School toilets opened yesterday. The students were extremely excited to view and use the facilities. The bathrooms look amazing and we thank our students and staff for their patience during the refurbishment process.

This morning we met with the architects that have been engaged to install the acoustic treatments in the learning spaces in the Senior School building - karawun. The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is about to put this job out to tender and we hope to have these treatments installed next year. The colour designs for the treatment will most certainly freshen up the learning spaces in this building whilst providing an inclusive learning space for all of our students. This installation is the result of a successful application to the Inclusive Schools Fund. This application was developed and submitted by a working party of parents during lockdown last year.

Remembrance Day Friday 11 November

We will be commemorating Remembrance Day on Friday 11 November. On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War.

As a mark of respect to those who have died and suffered, Australians are encouraged to pause at 11 am to observe one minute’s silence and remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts.

Carlton North PS is an inclusive school community and as we commemorate Remembrance Day we also acknowledge all of our people who fought for their Country. We recognise that those Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who fought in conflicts, were often not recognised for their service. We acknowledge those who have lost their lives.

Teacher Professional Practice Days (PPD)

The new Victorian Government Schools Agreement states that each teacher is entitled to be released from their scheduled duties including any face to face teaching, for three Professional Practice Days in 2022 to focus on the improved delivery of teaching and learning. These days are additional to pupil free days and planning time.

The following staff have their PPD days next week and will not be teaching in the classroom on these days:

  • Wednesday 9 November - Kara and Ben
  • Thursday 10 November - Olivia

Hats!!!!

A reminder that we are a SunSmart School and that all students and staff are required to wear hats when outside. We require students and staff to wear a hat that protects the face, neck and ears such as a broad brimmed, legionnaire or bucket style hat. Peak caps do not offer enough protection and are not recommended by SunSmart.

With the hotter weather on its way please remind your child to put a hat in their school bag for next week.
