OPEN DAY - WEDNESDAY, 1 MAY

Open Day is next Wednesday 1st May.  I ask you to spread the word via word of mouth, email, SMS about this opportunity for prospective students (and families) to visit the school.  This is also a wonderful time for our current students to celebrate and 'show off' all the great work/learning we do here at Collingwood College.

Additionally, if you would like to volunteer to do a postcard drop on your nightly walk, please see reception as we have many postcards to disperse over the next few days.

Financial Assistance for Families

CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors, excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works and sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership.  All are part of a healthy curriculum.  CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.

If you hold a valid means –tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF.  A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.

The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

The CSEF payment cannot be used towards voluntary school charges, books, stationery, school uniforms, before/after school care, music lessons, or formals/graduations.

The annual CSEF amount per student is:

  • $125 for primary school students
  • $225 for secondary school students

REGGIO YEAR 5-6 STUDENTS WORKING WITH ARTIST CAROLYN CARDINET

The City of Yarra is promoting, as from June this year electronics cannot be thrown in bins.  Instead the council has allocated bins where the community can drop them off to be recycled.

These drop-off places include the Depo Roseneath Street in Clifton Hill, the big bins at the Collingwood Leisure Centre, and the Ikea car park in Richmond.

Year 5/6 Reggio students had the opportunity to work with artist Carolyn Cardinet and Kirsty Richards the coordinator of this project, from the City of Yarra.  Students created sculptures using recycled materials, including old electronics.

I was kindly invited to Carolyn’s exhibition at Alliance Francaise in St. Kilda where she had used similar recycled materials the students used to create an installation.  I documented this exhibition and once back art school students had the opportunity to discuss and view Carolyn’s artwork.

Kindly supported by the City of Yarra

REGGIO 3-4 BOOK REVIEWS

This term in Library, students in Reggio 3/4 will do a book review for the school newsletter.

We hope you are inspired by our book selection by Mimi, Zoe, Delina and Rufus.

Twin Spin by Adam Cece

The book that I'm recommending is 'Twin Spin' by Adam Cece.  It's about two twins then one of them steals the other one's identity to see her favourite band.
