New Recycling Bins for the School

PEN RECYCLING AT CSC

You are now able to recycle your old pens, highlighters, and white outs at CSC. Old pens are sent off to BIC who recycle them into new pens. We are happy to collect pens from other schools or workplaces, as every kilo of plastic that gets recycled earns our school money.

The other thing to keep is your bread bag ties (see photo). Once you have a little collection of them, drop them into the school and we will ensure that they are sent off to be recycled into things like bionic hands!

BUILDING DEMOLITION AND DISPOSAL

Change is upon us at Castlemaine Secondary College. What seemed permanent is now rubble. It can be difficult to imagine that this dust and destruction will soon be a new and vibrant learning environment. It is, however, important to reflect on what has been and in this instance what has happened with what has been...

In a project this size obviously and inevitably there is a huge amount of material to be taken away from the site, and in our case this has been done with as much care as possible.

The materials are broken down into different categories; green waste, building rubble, clean concrete, dirty concrete, asbestos, scrap steel, clean asphalt and timber. Of these the only ones that went to landfill at Eaglehawk were green waste and building rubble, and these make up a total of 16% of all the materials taken from the site. So a total of 84% of the material has been recycled, sold or reused.

History Week 2019

To celebrate History Week this year, the Humanities Learning Area put up a display in the Library consisting of posters about a range of history topics including the World Wars, Australia’s First Peoples and Ancient Civilisations. There was also a display of books available from the Library covering many historical themes.

A short history quiz, involving answering one question a day, was run with two $20 vouchers for Stoneman’s Bookroom as the prizes. The winners were Maisie Mellick-Cooper and Finn Spencer-Smith. Congratulations to our winners and to all who participated in History Week.
