Secondary News

Richard Clark

As we come to the end of Term 3, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students and staff for their amazing efforts over the term.  I am continually surprised by the range of opportunities that are offered to our students, educationally, culturally and in the sporting arena.  Opportunities like the UNE Science Discovery bus which is currently visiting our school, the Year 8 Lake Keepit excursion which departs on Monday 19th September and the Secondary Movie Night which is planned for next Thursday evening (22nd September).  None of these opportunities would be possible without the dedication and generosity of our teachers.

The students are also thanked for the wonderful way they participate in the opportunities offered to them.  I receive frequent congratulations regarding the  manner in which our students represent our school community. They are a credit to the school and their families.  Uniform is an important part of how we are recognised in the community. Thank you to those students who are always well presented in the school uniform.

As the term concludes a number of classes are finalising assessment tasks.  It is an important skill for students to plan tasks and meet deadlines.  If any students require assistance to complete tasks they should talk to their class teachers.

NSW SCHOOL VACCINATION PROGRAM 2016

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS MISSED A VACCINE

If your child has missed any vaccinations they will be offered any missed doses at the next clinic at their school.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS NOT RECEIVED ALL HPV VACCINES BEFORE THE END OF 2016

Any year 7 student with missed doses of HPV vaccine can be caught up in 2017.

Additionally – any year 8 student who commenced HPV vaccination while in year 7 and are yet to finish all 3 doses of HPV (and who has not received any from their local doctor) can still receive these at the next clinic at their school.

Don’t forget a Record of Vaccination is given to each student for each vaccination. Parents/guardians should ensure that this record is kept for future reference and should not assume that their child has been vaccinated if they do not receive this Record of Vaccination.

Author visit to Moree

On Monday 19th September, year 10 students will be going to the Moree Community Big Sky Library for a meeting with author Kim Rhodes, on her memoirs ‘Girl on the Edge’. Her memoirs capture the challenges during her coming of age years; self, identity, belonging and alienation. The talk will explore inequality, class and gender expectations and stigma regarding mental health. Students will be walking to and from the library.
