Brain Olympia - 2019

On Tuesday 29th October, eight students from year six and four students from year four and five were lucky enough to represent St Philomena's at the 2019 Brain Olympia held at St Francis Xavier’s Catholic School, Narrabri.

There were eleven teams competing including two teams from St Philomena's .

We participated in a range of activities such as a general knowledge quiz, problem solving, impromptu speech and skit. One of our teams came fourth and one team came sixth.

We loved being able to challenge ourselves as well as working together in a team.

We thank Mrs Downes very much for coming with us and we look forward to other Brain Olympia opportunities in the future.

Stage 1 Pioneer Village Excursion

On Wednesday 6th November Stage 1 visited Pioneer Village at Inverell, as part of the HSIE unit Present and Past Family Life.

It was a great day out, exploring the village and looking at old houses, a church, a school, a printing shop and even an old pub. The farm machinery and equipment was a favourite, as was the military trucks. The authentic buildings in the village have been collected from Inverell and surrounding districts and represent the lifestyle and pioneering spirit of our ancestors. The children asked many questions and were amazed at the old wares they saw. The old school was fascinating and many of the students found it hard to imagine how learning took place all those years years ago.

Everyone enjoyed eating recess and lunch on the grass by the small lake.

Stage 1 had some wonderful parents join them on the trip and we thank them for helping out on the day.
