Preston District Swimming
On Wednesday, 27th February, 23 students travelled to Northcote Aquatic Centre to compete in the Preston District Swimming Carnival. With the temperature pushing over 30 degrees, what a day it was to be able to be in the water!
As well as all of the individual and relay events, all of the PDPSSA Primary Schools also fight to be crowned the 'Preston District Swimming Champions', which is awarded to the school who accumulates the most points over the day. At the end of the individual events, St Raphael's held a 4 point lead over Preston Primary, in what was fast becoming a race of two to the title.
With the relays now beginning, the points earned in these events were also doubled. As such, Preston were able to peg back our lead and at the end of the day, managed to finish just in front of our school. For such a small school in relation to Preston Primary, it was an amazing effort to finish second in our District, following up our win in 2018.
Congratulations to the 23 students who swam on the day, as well as the 18 students who qualified to swim at the next round, Northern Division Swimming, which was held on Monday, 4th March at Northcote Aquatic Centre (to be included in the next newsletter). Overall, we finished 1st in 8 events, 2nd in 8 events and 3rd in 3 events, which shows how successful our students were on the day. As always, a massive thank you to the parents and friends who came to show their support to the students, who were thrilled to see so many people there to support them!
