Wellbeing MATTERS!

Welcome Benvenuto

As we continue on our journey to being a salutegenic community we explore how we can be safe in an ‘electronic’ and a real-life world.

What can we do to keep ourselves free from harm and anxiety as we navigate the world wide web (www) and we use the many devices we have at our exposal?  How do we keep our children safe on this same platform?

As a parent it is your right and responsibility to monitor and maintain your child’s use of technological devices to maintain a salutegenic home.  The eSafety Commissioner has developed many resources that will help you support your family and maintain a healthy and safe technology home.

Our focus for this issue is:

There is always an avenue for people to act in a manner that is ‘mean’, hurtful or nasty.  This manifested in many ways.  Have you empowered your child to be able to speak up and name these unwanted behaviours? Do you have a strategy in place so your child can distinguish between someone who is being mean or someone who is being a bully?  Can you name the difference?

Are you aware of the Online Safety Act?

The Act has significant implications for online service providers because it makes them more accountable for the online safety of the people who use their service.

The Act gives eSafety substantial new powers to protect all Australians – adults now as well as children – across most online platforms and forums where people can experience harm.

There is, for the first time, a clear set of expectations for online service providers that makes them accountable for the safety of people who use their services.

The Act also requires industry to develop new codes to regulate illegal and restricted content. This refers to the most seriously harmful material, such as videos showing sexual abuse of children or acts of terrorism, through to content that is inappropriate for children, such as high impact violence and nudity.

You can find the e-safety commissioner parent page at:

There are also a number of webinars that you can access, for free, that will help you keep your family safe and free from online harm.

I would encourage you to participate in these as they could be a sanity saver!

If ever you need help sorting out personal or family issues, give CatholicCare Victoria a call.  They offer many services to all members of our community – ALL FREE.
