Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We had a very special Mothers’ Day Mass to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of mothers, grandmothers, aunties and other important people in our lives. Thank you to all who were able to join us and for the F-2 classes for organising the beautiful Liturgy. I hope you all enjoyed your gifts that were made so lovingly for you by your children during PPR and I hope you had a lovely, relaxing Sunday with your families.

This Sunday is our Children’s Mass. It is an extra special celebration as one of our Yr 3 students, Paige Sanford will be baptised and our Sacramental children will be presented with the Our Father. Everyone is invited to join us at Sacred Heart Church at 10am to celebrate this special occasion. We especially ask for God’s blessing on these children and their families.

Year 5/6s thoroughly enjoyed the ABLAZE event which saw the official launch of the Sandhurst 2022 theme "Tell the Good News". Everyone loved listening to Father Rob singing and the other guest speakers.

Our School Open Day is taking place today. Dom and I were delighted to showcase all that Sacred Heart has to offer families. A particular thanks to our Year 6 leaders who took the families on the school tour. You were great ambassadors of your school and I received many compliments on your manners, confidence and pride in your school. There will be another information session this evening at 5:30pm. Applications for parents wishing to enrol children in Foundation and other classes at Sacred Heart School for the 2023 school year is now open.  If you were unable to attend our Open Day and would like to see all our school has to offer please phone the school on 5824 1841 and arrange a suitable time or go to our website for further information.

Over the past couple of weeks staff and student absentees has been unusually high. With some rearranging and juggling we have been able to cover all classes with minimal disruptions. A reminder to parents if your child tests positive for Covid to notify us. If your child has no symptoms, they may return after seven days but if they are still unwell please allow them to take the time to recover before returning to school.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) has been taking place over the past two weeks. Well done to all those in Yr 3 and 5 who completed the assessment and did your best. This year was the first time that our students completed them online. Thank you to all the staff for ensuring all went smoothly.

It’s been exciting to see some movement on creative Arts Centre build. It is being referred to as MALL Project [Music, Art, Library, Languages]. Over the holidays the slab was poured.  The builders are unfortunately waiting on the steel which should arrive within the next couple of weeks. A new fire main was installed during holidays and has left some parts of the yard a little muddy. This should settle soon. A new pathway from Hunter St to the bike rack was made so daily movement to and from school can happen well away from the construction site.

Friday the 20th of May is Walk Safely to School Day and we are encouraging everyone who is able to participate to walk, ride or scoot even for a few blocks or to the bus stop This day aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children. Anyone who walks, rides or scoots to school next Friday can come and tell me as they arrive to school and I’ll have a Walk to School Safely Tattoo for them.

This Friday F/1 are looking forward to their excursion to Echuca where they will enjoy some hands on science activities and workshops at TwistED Science to enrich this term’s Science focus. Thanks to their teachers for organising the day of learning and fun. We look forward to hearing all about the day on their return. Year 5/6 will be participating in the Division Winter Sports on Friday. These sports include soccer, netball and T-ball. Good luck everyone.

Next week is National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year’s theme, Be Brave. Make Change. is a challenge to us all to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for all. The dates for NRW, 27 May to 3 June, commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey-the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Congratulations to all the children who qualified for Division Cross Country last week. Once again, you represented your school and ran very well. Special congratulations to Isabella Cameron, Madison Worm and Sidney Nihill  who have qualified for Zone later this term.

A special congratulations to Tayla Corbo who recently graduated from ACU with a Bachelor of Primary Teaching. Fortunately, Sacred Heart is very lucky to have someone with Tayla’s enthusiasm, passion and true professionalism and we wish her all the best for many years in this wonderful profession of teaching.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
