News and Notices

From the Principal

We are already in Week 4 of Term 2. The weather is starting to change and there is a definite autumnal feel. We have had quite a bit of illness at school, but everyone has been very good about keeping sick children away.

I would like to give a warm RidgeView welcome to CJ and Storm who are in Waahi Pakari.

Isolation Requirements

There is still some confusion about isolation requirements. Here are the guidelines that we follow.

If someone in your household tests positive for COVID, then everyone in the household has to isolate for 7 days. The day of the positive COVID test is Day 0. You then need to complete seven days and return to school on Day 8.

If you test positive for COVID, the day of your test is Day 0. You need to isolate for 7 days and can return to school on Day 8 if you are symptom free. If you still have symptoms, you can return to school once you have been symptom free for 24 hours.

New Entrant Enrolments

Are you, or anyone you know, planning on sending your new entrant child to RidgeView School this year (2022) or the beginning of next year (2023)? It would be very helpful for me if you could contact the office and pre-enrol i.e. complete the enrolment forms.

Year 6 Albany Junior High School Experience Day - 30 June

Our Year 6 students have been invited to spend a day at AJHS to meet some teachers, look around the school, and experience some of the teaching and leaning at the school. It is usually a great day.

AJHS is one of the schools in our Community of Learners and is the next step on the learning pathway for RidgeView Students.

The children will be collected by bus and will travel with a teacher to AJHS. They need to wear full school uniform and shoes on this day. They will take their bags with their morning tea and lunch with them.

Paint for our Murals

We are looking for testpots or leftover coloured paint to paint our murals, preferably exterior paint but we will work with whatever we can get. Please bring your offerings into school ASAP. Thank you!

Drink Bottles

Please can you make sure that your child brings a water bottle to school every day. We had a collection of bottles to lend to children, but these are slowly disappearing.

If you have extra water bottles in good condition, that you no longer use, we would be happy to add them to our collection.

Bell Times

Just a reminder that the bell rings at 8.55am for the start of the school day. This means that your child should be on the schoolgrounds, with all belongings unpacked by 8.55am. This just means that the teachers are able to set the children up for the school day and give instructions so that everyone knows what they are doing.

Dental Clinic

The mobile dental van will be visiting school from 30 May 2022 to 10 June 2022. If you remember, the dental van was onsite when we went into lockdown in 2021! They will start with the people they were supposed to see in 2021, and then see others if they have time.

Pink Shirt Day

We had a highy successful Pink Shirt Day with all our tamariki dressed in red or pink, with activities based on the theme of "Be a Friend, Not a Bully!"

We collected $68.30 for the Pink Shirt appeal.

Yummy Stickers

Just a reminder to collect the Yummy Stickers found on apples and stone fruit. We send them in at the end of September and are then gifted sports equipment such as skipping ropes and balls. You can either collect a sticker collection sheet from the office or download one here.

Swimming Pool

Please note that the pool has been drained. The paint experts have been in and will be doing a repair after winter when the weather is drier and warmer.

School Donation

Just a reminder that our school donation is $70 per term or $280 per year per child. As a small school, we depend on this money for things like paper, art materials and books. Any contribution that you can make is always very gratefully received.

Rippa Rugby

We have a number of Year 3 - 6 children who are wanting to play in the rippa tounament this year. You should have received a notice and permission form. There is a cost of $6.50 per child, but please let me know if this is a problem for your family.

Old Mobile Phones

Do you have an old phone that you no longer use and would be happy to wipe clean and donate to the school? We are able to connect the phones to our internet and the children can then use them to take photos of their work or use some of the educational apps that are available.

Tying up Long Hair

It seems to be a thing for our girls to leave their hair loose or to untie their hair once they get to school. We have found that it is much better for learning if long hair is tied up, and it is a big factor in preventing the spread of nits.

Fruit for Morning Tea

Does anyone have any fruit growing in their gardens that they would be able to donate to the school  for the children to eat at morning tea.

New Telephone Number

Our new telephone number is 027 593 5963.

Absences

If your child is going to be away from school, please either email Kalene on office@ridgeview.school.nz or phone and leave a message on the answer phone. We need to follow up every day.
