Niina Marni,

This week we have been celebrating Reconciliation Week. We started the week with a flag raising ceremony, which was moved to the hall due to the wild, windy, wet weather. We had a beautiful welcome to country by Ngangki Warra, two lovely young Kaurna women, who welcomed us all to Kaurna country. They explained the theme to us before teaching the students, and staff, a few Kaurna greetings before getting us all to do some cultural dance. It is the sharing of our First Nations cultures like this that leads to greater understanding of our culture and in turn, reconciliation.

The theme for this year is “Be Brave. Make Change.” This is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. This year we are asking everyone to make change beginning with brave actions in their daily lives – where they live, work, play and socialise. This is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Kaurna Greetings:

Niina Marni – Hello, are you good?

Marniai – I’m good

Nakutha – See you later

Ngaityalya – Thank you

Nukkun,

Kath
