From the Principal

Term 2, Week 5, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Families,

COVID

Whilst there are still COVID positive cases occurring at school it isn’t at the levels experienced in the second half of last term. It seems that worst may be behind us, as the school has settled back into the routines experienced prior to the most recent outbreak. However finding quality relief teachers is still proving a challenge.  Another challenge is when our support staff are absent, they do not get replaced.

Teaching Learning

With an interrupted term one, it has been important we get back to our core business of teaching and learning. Term two has started in a more connected way.  Staff have been meeting face to face, enabling us to engage with our schools goals and targets in a more effective and meaningful way.

Our staff are currently divide into learning communities with each having a different focus that is linked to our site improvement plan. The two main areas that we are targeting this year are reading and writing. Staff have started the process of writing student academic reports. They will be presented in the same format as last year and will reflect student progress over terms one and two.

My Tree Project

Our upper primary classes are developing their green thumbs through the My Tree Project. They are propagating seedlings which will be ready to be planted in a couple of months’ time. Each student in the school will get a seedling to plant in the area behind the pool. We are endeavouring to create a mini botanical gardens featuring local native species, the area will also feature a butterfly garden.

Upcoming Events

·         Reconciliation Week, Friday 27th May – Friday 3rd June. Featuring a flag raising ceremony and a traditional welcome from local Kaurna custodians and a donut lunch to celebrate Mabo Day.

·         Pupil Free Day on 10th June- staff will examine samples of student work to ensure consistency during assessment.

Assemblies

Assemblies are back! It is great to have the opportunity to get together as a school after not being able to do so for so long. If you child is hosting, presenting or receiving an award you are more than welcome to attend. Your classroom teacher will provide this information to you via Seesaw.

If  you have any queries please let me know.

Kind regards,
