Bird Boxes May 2022

One of the projects that the Year 12 Numeracy class have been working on over the semester has been building nesting habitats (boxes) for the School Nature Corridor. The purpose of these is to provide native birds and bats, spaces to nest while protecting them from predatory or invasive species. The task included: identifying the bird or bat species we are trying to encourage; listing the habitat that they prefer; researching the best designs of habitats for that species; drawing up a plan with all the sizes required and research the best materials to use; calculating the amount of wood required and the costs of making the bird boxes; and finally, installing them where it is safe to do so.
