Year 5

A Student Perspective

The life of year 5s

at Plenty Parklands Primary school

Plenty Parklands Primary School is an amazing school. There are many kind and welcoming teachers and students at this school. Year 5 is one of the best years and this is why.

So far in year 5 it has been brilliant! There have been so many fun days in the past 5 months. We have been to camp, learnt new strategies in reading, unpacked lots of seeds in writing and explored a variety of areas in maths.

Camp was tremendous! There were so many fun activities and exciting times. The list of activities was amazing. There was the zip line, the low ropes and many other things like camp cooking, which was superb. The movie night and disco were pretty cool. We are so grateful that we got to go to camp.

In class, we have enjoyed experiencing new and interesting books as well as using a lot of different strategies to help us understand our reading. We have loved having the opportunity to discover and share different types of books.

Our writing sessions have been really exciting too. It’s been good to see everyone in the class working at different stages of the writing process. It is fun to unpack our thinking and put it on paper. It starts from a tiny, little seed and then…you go on an ADVENTURE with your writing!

Our maths topics have been great too. Everyone gets really engaged in the subjects. We have been working on place value, multiplication and division. It’s been fun and interesting because we get to explore our thinking and try new strategies here too. We are really engaged in learning new topics in maths.

If we were asked to sum up year 5 in just one word:

Mia: Adventurous!

Connor: Fun!

Elijah: Exciting!

Alannah: Great!

Eva: Interesting!

Aishani: Wonderful!

Year 5 has been great so far, we can’t wait to see what comes next.

Year 5 Camp

In week 2 the Year 5s attended camp at Forest Edge in Neerim South. Camp was very exciting, there were so many fun activities such as bushwalking, flying fox, mountain boarding and so much more. The campers had huge grounds to run around and play in and everyone enjoyed the time they had to just catch up and connect with their friends. The highlight of camp for most of us was the Disco night, because we could dance to loud music and stay up late. Thank you to all the teachers for organising it and making it the best camp ever!
