Education Week & Open Night

Jells Park PS  had its Open Night on Wednesday 25 May and it was a magnificent night. There were hundreds of people, the food vendors were flat out and the Art Show was really popular. Additionally, over $2000 was raised from the silent auction and those funds will go directly back into resourcing the Arts program.

A massive thank you to the two Visual Art teachers (Ms McSweeney and Mrs DeVilliers) for the wonderful array of indigenous artwork prepared by the students. And, in addition, to the team that prepared the wonderful display and presentation in the gym - particularly Miss Ward, Mrs Wyllie, Mrs Hague and Mrs Owen.

I also wanted to thank the Education Department's area KESO (Koorie Education Support Officer), Mark Lumley, for visiting on the night and giving his voice of approval to the presentation of the Art Show.

Acknowledgement of Land - why?

I wanted to start this with an apology.

On a night when we are presenting student samples of indigenous art, it was incredibly remiss of me to forget to do Acknowledgement of Land when I presented last Wednesday night. I need to do better to remember this and I apologise to any indigenous people in the room.

This is probably a good point to explain why it is important to do Acknowledgement of Land and to educate our students about this issue. Primarily it is about understanding and respect. Understanding that the indigenous peoples' were the custodians of these lands FIRST and that the acknowledgement is a way to commemorate their kinship to the land. And respect, to the culture and rights of the indigenous people to the land and thanking them for allowing us to be one with the land.

Thanks to our wonderful Parents

Thanks as always to our wonderful JPPC for the organisation and running of the Election Day BBQ. Visitors to the school were able to grab a quick snack and drink and the JPPC were able to raise over $1500. Particular thanks to Saira A for taking the lead here and organising the food and the roster.

Additional Date - Student Free Day

A reminder that School Council has approved an additional Student Free Day on Tuesday 21 June, to allow teachers to undertake their Professional Practice Day. Parent Teacher Interviews will also be held on this day.

Enrolment for 2023

Do you have a neighbor, friend or family connection looking for a great school for their child to start in 2023??  Right now we still have space for new Foundation 2023 enrolments, even if they are out of zone. Get them to call the office or book online for a tour.

A reminder also to any current family that has a younger child ready for school next year (sibling enrolment) - please come to the office to collect a 2023 enrolment form. It would be a great benefit to us to know how many sibling we are likely to have enrolled next year.
