Lote

In LOTE this term, students at each level have started learning a new topic. Here’s some snap shots of what we have been doing so far.
Level 3 – Family
Level 3 students are learning about family members such as Dad, Mum, siblings and grandparents in Mandarin since the beginning of Term 2. Students have the option to draw a family portrait or a family tree, and label their family members in Chinese. It has been great to see and listen to students introducing their family members to one another in Mandarin.
Level 4 – Sports
In Term 2, Level 4 students are learning about sports in Mandarin. Students have also learned simple sentences such as 我喜欢… Wǒ xǐ huān… (I like…), and 我想学… Wǒ xiǎng xué… (I want to learn…) to express their personal preferences. We have also learned about one of the traditional Chinese sports – 毽子Jiàn zi (Chinese shuttlecock). Students have enjoyed playing the Chinese shuttlecock individually and in teams. This is quoted from one of the Level 4 students after playing the Chinese shuttlecock “Fun! It isn’t as easy as it looks, but it is quite addictive which made us want to keep on going.”
Level 5 – School
Level 5 students are learning about school in LOTE this term. Students have learned the Chinese names of various school facilities, roles and subjects in Mandarin. Students had a school facilities scavenger hunt which required them to go around the school and take photos according to the clues. Then students uploaded their photos along with typing the Chinese name of the school facilities onto Google Slide.
Level 6 – Travel
Level 6 students are learning about travel in Term 2. Students are on a virtual trip to China’s capital city, Beijing. Our Chinese background students had researched on some famous landmarks in Beijing and shared with their classmates in class. All students have had the opportunity to research on one of the Chinese landmarks which they are interested in.
