Hawks for All Schools Program
On Monday, the Year Five and Six students participated in the Hawks for All Schools Program, a program designed to give students a better understanding of disability and to build empathy, all while learning to play Blind and Wheelchair Footy.
The sessions were run by facilitators with experience of playing blind and wheelchair AFL, and our students had the opportunity to take part in these sessions.
The Blind AFL sessions were run by Ned Brewer-Maiga, the vice-captain of the Hawthorn AFL Blind team. Ned also plays Blind Cricket and Soccer for Australia. The sessions were also run by Pete Frank, who plays for the Hawthorn AFL Blind team, who was escorted by his beautiful Vision Dog, Anya (definitely a crowd favourite)!
The Wheelchair AFL session was led by Gerard McCarthy, who plays for the Hawthorn Wheelchair AFL team.
Our students listened to their stories, interacted with the facilitators and experienced playing football in a wheelchair or with vision impairment glasses.
Our students really seemed to enjoy the experience, at the same time as developing a better understanding and appreciation of others.
House Cross Country
On Friday 29 April, all of our students adorned their house colours, put on their runners and got involved in the Rowville Primary School House Cross Country. The Year Three to Six Cross Country was held before recess, and the Foundation to Year Two Cross Country was after recess, before all coming together for the presentations.
It was a really lovely morning with students cheering on their Houses, supporting one and other, having a go and pushing themselves to their limit. Well done!
Congratulations to our first, second and third place age group champions, our top ten place-getters and the students who have now been chosen to represent Rowville Primary School at the District Cross Country on Wednesday 25 May.
A big congratulations also to the winning House, LONSDALE!
Thank you to our wonderful Year Five and Six leaders who helped in many different areas during the event and our great group of parent helpers.
Go Rowville Primary School!
