Wellbeing Matters

Year 8 Wellbeing Day: Thursday 2 June

This Thursday 2 June our Year 8 students will be participating in all day workshops on friendships, respectful relationships and the media portrayal of men and women. There will be two workshop spaces for boys (W5) and girls (R3). Students may self-identify which workshop they would like to attend.

Year 9 Wellbeing Days: Thursday 9 & Friday 10 June

The last two years of COVID restrictions have had a negative impact on the programs and opportunities we can run for students. With those restrictions now lifted, we are keen to provide students with more opportunities and experiences away from screens, and off-campus.

The Year 9 Wellbeing Days provide us with an excellent opportunity to do things differently.

There are many key influences on our wellbeing, including feeling safe and secure, being healthy, feeling like we belong and are connected to our community, being acknowledged and valued, and understanding how to seek help when we need it. Research is increasingly showing that having a meaning and purpose, or contributing to making a difference in the world for others, can also be a powerful builder of flourishing wellbeing.

And so, for our Year 9 Wellbeing Days we are planning a Local/Global experience over two days.

On one day, students will have a global experience, choosing to learn more about an area where they could make a difference for the world.

On the other day, students will have a local experience, having fun activities and learning about making a difference for their local community, their friends and themselves.

Students can choose to learn about making a difference for:

  • People in need
  • Animals in need
  • Environment in need
  1. If students choose  People in need, they will go into the city to spend the day with the team from The Intersection, learning about homelessness, stereotypes, disadvantage and empathy.  Students will experience The Most Liveable City Walk  and the  Empathy Workshop (more information here:  Melbourne CBD and In-Class Learning for Schools, City Experience (theintersection.org.au)).

  2. If students choose Animals in Need, they will travel to the Victorian headquarters of the RSPCA (Burwood).  Students will learn about animal welfare and wellbeing, the work that RSPCA does in the community,  and how they can become involved in animal welfare.

  3. If students choose Environment in Need, they will visit Edendale Farm in Eltham, an interactive community and education centre that supports sustainable living practices for the whole community. Students will learn about our food footprint, the future of food, reducing our consumption, and sustainable living.

Year 11 Wellbeing Day: Tuesday 14 June
