Year 11 Australian & Global Politics

During the last week of Term 1, the Year 11 Australian and Global Politics class was fortunate enough to have a visit from Zoe Daniel, the Independent candidate for Goldstein. It was fantastic timing to have the federal election running at the same time as we were studying the role of political parties, interest groups and media in the Australian political system. So, it was doubly fortunate to have Zoe speak about her experience of working as an ABC journalist and her involvement with the interest group 'Voices of Goldstein', and provide insight into how and why someone gets involved in politics as an independent.

The students asked fantastic questions about the bias of the media, how to shift Australia towards renewable energy (including questions around whether we should remove cars in our major cities) and improving the living standards for the less fortunate within the Goldstein electorate. Overall, it was an incredibly rewarding real-world experience for the students to connect and engage with.
