Ms. Dorothea Bruns – Frau Bruns 

At Brentwood Secondary School, our students benefit significantly from the vast experience of our talented teaching staff. With thousands of years of combined teaching and even more life experience, our staff bring many unique perspectives, teaching techniques and a wealth of knowledge to our school community and our students´ education.  

This week we would like to shine the spotlight on the achievements of our Head of Languages, Ms. Dorothea Bruns. Recognised as an exceptional teacher, Frau Bruns not only teaches our German students in years seven to twelve at Brentwood Secondary College, she has also been an integral part of the international German language institute, the Goethe Institut. In her role as a “Multiplikatorin” – someone qualified to pass on knowledge – Ms. Dorothea Bruns has presented at international conferences to guests from over ninety countries spanning six continents. She has also been a guest speaker at several conferences here in Australia, including her most recent presentations at the South Australian German Teachers´ Conference 2022 in Adelaide and Queensland Conference for Teachers of German 2021 in Brisbane. Additionally, Ms. Bruns has provided individual professional development and support to a range of both new and experienced teachers throughout Victoria, enabling them to develop their teaching skills and strategies. 

Ms. Bruns is a well respected and sought-after speaker and coach, whose dedication to the improvement of language teaching can be witnessed in the variety of ways she contributes to the education of both students and teachers. From the front of the classroom, to her dedication to the promotion the of languages in our community, Ms. Bruns demonstrates her passion to see our students achieve their personal learning goals in the language classroom and beyond.
