ICCES Swimming

On Tuesday, the 8th of March, a group of Girton students went down to Melbourne to compete in the ICCES swimming carnival. The long bus drive down to MSAC had students looking tired, but with a tremendous effort, we managed to finish 3rd out of the schools competing, even with races with no Girton students. Girton had some outstanding performers with three winning Age Champions:

 Hunter Boswell Year 10 boys, Henry Allen Year 8 Boys, Grace Dobie Year 7 Girls.

Girton also had fantastic swims with some records broken:

4x50m Freestyle Relay – Year 10 Boys – Girton Grammar – 1:52.19 (Old 1:52.59 ST.PAULS 2004)

Medley Relay – Year 8 Boys – Girton Grammar – 2:15.14 (Old 2:18.28 GIPPSLAND GRAMMAR 2021)      

50m Freestyle – Year 10 Boys – Hunter Boswell – 25:23 (old 25.52 J SHARP (HAM) 2018)

50m Butterfly – Year 10 Boys – Hunter Boswell – 27.36 (old 27.70 SAUNDERS 2004)

We received some high praise from the swimming Victoria officials and Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre Staff, saying that our behaviour on the day was outstanding. We would also like to say a big thank you to the staff involved, Clint Whitsed, Deirdre Tunzi, and Holly Speed, for all their hard work throughout the day.

The following senior school students attended the School Sports Victoria State Final last Thursday, and our students had some outstanding team and individual results.  To finish with a first, second or third place at this level is a wonderful achievement. 

Special mention to Henry Allan, Stephanie Ingram, Grace Dobie and Charlie Whitsed who all walked away with a FIRST placed medallion!
