Year Nine Camp

Our year 9 camp to Melbourne is one that I’m not going to forget anytime soon. It was a wonderful and exciting experience that helped us learn heaps about the city itself, the street art, famous locations, and much more. Personally, my favourite activity was going to the Melbourne Cable Park for our last day. Running around on an obstacle course essentially made of pool floaties was by far the weirdest, yet the funniest activity we did. Plus, it resulted heaps of very entertaining photos! I’m sure we can all agree that the tour boat on the Yarra River was a very exciting, yet loud experience, filled with lively chatting, singing, and a lot of dancing! And we of course learnt heaps about the history and locations of Melbourne. Overall, travelling around the city and making new friends in my group made this camp unforgettable, and I would gladly do it all again.

Who likes donuts?
Do you like Krispy Kreme donuts from 7/11?
Or Do you like piping hot, freshly made donuts from the Vic Market?
Well my group liked donuts so much that it was our first snack stop on our year 9 urban camp experience.
On Monday the 4th of April, the year 9s headed off to Melbourne for our urban camp experience. When we arrived in Melbourne we went to Go Climb to do rock climbing and mini golf. Rock climbing challenged everyone and our fear of heights but it was worth it in the end. We then arrived at The Miami Hotel, our home for the week and my group had dinner at a lovely dinner at Italian-Lebanese restaurant called ‘Errol’s’. We definitely recommend it and their Hawaiian pizza. Tuesday started off with a trip to the amazing Victoria Market, after our stop at the donut shop, we walked to The Blender street art studio to create our very own street art. At Blender we met some artists and learnt all about street art, then we got kitted up and began our designs. Tuesday ended with a Yarra river cruise, where we learnt some history of the buildings beside the Yarra and finished with a dance party which was very enjoyable. Wednesday was busy at the Werribee Zoo where we went on a Safari to see all the interesting animals many people’s favourites were the hippos and meerkats. After the zoo we relaxed at St Kilda beach before dinner. At St Kilda beach some people dipped their feet in the water or rode the Ferris wheel and many walked along the pier to enjoy the incredibly photogenic view of Melbourne. Dinner Wednesday night was acquired from various shops along Ackland street in St Kilda which definitely has the best gelato. Thursday was full of interesting activities and in the evening we were lucky enough to view the Australian premiere of the movie Fantastic beasts: The secrets of Dumbledore. It was thrilling. On Friday, we went to the Melbourne cable park, which is an inflatable obstacle course on water. The obstacle course was challenging and many people fell into the lake but it was so much fun and definitely everyone’s favourite part of camp.
