John Wollaston in partnership with Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, we will be collecting second-hand winter clothing, shoes and football boots for students at Yipirinya School, Alice Springs.
Yipirinya is a small school in Alice Springs where some students travel hundreds of kilometres to get to school. Often these students are attending school inadequately dressed for the cold early mornings and night-time temperatures which can go below zero. Peter Moyes teacher, Kristina O’Brien is currently conducting her health studies within the Alice Springs school and has asked for help in collecting second-hand clothes. Ms O'Brien will be providing students with a pack of warm winter clothes to take home.
The collection with be handed to Ms O’Brien on Friday 10 June before she travels to Alice Springs.
The following items are being collected for distribution:
If you can assist in clothing donations, boxes will be placed outside the Primary Reception each day between 8:00am and 3:15pm. For more information, please contact Primary PE Specialist Mel Fowler on SEQTA Direqt Message.
Join us as we push for better mental health!
Get fit, have fun and learn about mental health by taking part in The Push-Up Challenge 2022. This free event is for everyone —teachers, school staff, parents and students.
This June, get a team of up to 10 people together and challenge yourself to complete 3,139 push-ups over 24 days to shine the spotlight on mental health.
Sounds like too many push-ups? Each member of your team can aim for 25%, 50%,75% or 100% of the push-up target.
To get involved:
Push-ups can be done just about anywhere and you can spread your push-ups out over the day. Exercise alternatives such as sit-ups, squats or tailored exercises are also very welcome. You can bank your push-ups and see how your teammates are going through the event app. The daily push-up target changes each day to reflect a vital mental health statistic, so along the way, you’ll learn about mental health.
Our Community is proudly supporting the Push for Better Foundation. The Push for Better Foundation aims to engage and educate people on mental health through connection, physical activity and education. The Push for Better Foundation runs The Push-Up Challenge event to bring people from different walks of life together to push for better mental health. Our school is teaming up with Wonder Recycling Rewards to help reduce soft plastic waste in our environment and earn new sports equipment for our school.
We are calling on all students, parents and staff to start collecting bread bags and placing them in the collection bins at the ELC, Primary or Students Services Receptions. Any bag that has held bread is recyclable and will help the School earn points to redeem on new sports equipment.
