Principal's Report

As we approach the end of Term 3, I want to acknowledge the hard work of our students, teachers and families in maintaining the stamina required for attending school for three full terms on the back of the pandemic and remote learning. It is wonderful that we have been able to return to many of the activities and events that were prohibited over the past two years however, as we can all see and hear in the news, there is a changing landscape across all government sectors, including Education, where we are now dealing with more complex emotional and social needs.  As such, student wellbeing and engagement are central to learning at DPS and something we prioritise.

Our You Can DO It program and UBUNTU ( cross-age team building program) provide our students with explicit experiences that teach self-awareness, self-regulation, a strong sense of self, and a growth mindset. It is a work in progress as we support students with developing their social and emotional capabilities. We have endeavoured to cultivate a culture of belonging and connectedness this year, and I hope this will continue to evolve.

The year-level Book Week Parade was an excellent example of the community coming together to celebrate Literacy. Seeing all the teachers, education support staff, and students dressed was lovely and demonstrated a sense of cohesion as we celebrated this community event. In addition, we took an impromptu photo with all staff to capture the memory of this special day and many photos with children throughout the day.  Thank you to our School Captains for being excellent role models on the day.

A reminder to all DPS Families: Prep enrolments for  2023

If you haven't done so, please enrol your child for Prep 2023, as our transition program  starts in T4. Our Ready Steady School program has been a successful initiative to provide community members with an opportunity to engage with our teaching staff and expose their children to the school environment. Parents, if you know of any friends or family that have a school-aged child ready for Prep, please advise them to enrol their child ASAP.

Pick Up / Drop Off on Hummel Way

Thank you to all parents abiding by the drop-off and pick-up protocols along Hummel Way. This zone has become safer. However, we are still noticing that some people continue to park on the opposite side of the road, causing congestion and increasing the likelihood of a collision with another car or a pedestrian. Please remember to follow the parking rules when dropping off or picking up your child. If you cannot park, you should continue to circle until you can do so safely. Alternatively, you can park in the Council Car park being mindful of sign restrictions and walk over to the gate. Please note that the staff car park is off limits.

Naplan 2023

Grade 3 and 5 students can expect to receive their Individual Student Report for 2022 next week. Congratulations to all students, you should be proud of your achievements!
