Learning and Teaching

LS3 JUNIORS
During Maths this week the students were so excited to extend their learning to our lunchboxes! Making real life connections! Look at all of our sandwiches cut in to halves!
This morning we observed a minute's silence at Assembly, after the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Maths Learning Moment!
Anthony explains how old Queen Elizabeth II was before she passed away using a 1 metre ruler.
ITALIAN - LS1 Seniors
This term in Italian we learned about good health and living. As a special treat the seniors made Spiedini di frutta - Fruit skewers. The kids loved this lesson and truly enjoyed eating their creations!

SPORT NEWS
SENIOR SPORTS
Volley Ball and Cricket Teams
Congratulations!
During the summer inter-school sports, our mixed volleyball team and cricket team came second in the Hampton Park District.
Today our Grade 5/6 students played against Coral Park Primary School. Some matches were played at home and some at Coral Park. This is the last of our Inter-school Sports matches.
Next term on Wednesday 5th October, which is the first week back, Grade 5/6 will have Winter Lightning Premiership. If by chance it is wet, the backup date is Wednesday 11th October, which is in Week 2. The venues are as follows:
Football, European Handball, Tennis and Kickball – Sweeney Reserve
Basketball – Casey Stadium
Students will have the opportunity to play against a number of schools on the day and winners will proceed through to Divisional. We will leave school at approximately 9.10am and return by 3.00 pm. Basketball and football players will need to bring their tops and these will then be collected at the end of the day as Lightning Premiership is the final event for Inter-school Sports this year unless teams qualify for Divisional. A reminder football players also need to bring mouth guards.
Grade 3/4 will complete their Winter Inter-school Sports Rotation so that they are familiar with the sports once they are in Grade 5/6 and have to choose their sport for Inter-school Sports.
JUNIOR TAEKWONDO
Students had a great time at taekwondo this week. They focussed on a variety of skills, including kicking, boxing and defending as well as interacting with their peers and coach. Unfortunately this is their last session and some Juniors were heard saying to George one of our coaches, “Oh but we’re going to miss you…”
Once again a big thank you to Hall’s Taekwondo and Trent who organised our coaches for us: George, Kiara and Monique. They travelled all the way from Brunswick, an hour trip to SFS and then an hour trip back, to deliver our program. Their dedication and enthusiasm is to be commended.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLINICS
Today Juniors participated in football clinics run by the coaches from AFL Schools Program Australia. These clinics have been funded through the Positive Start Program. Students had a great time in their clinics and we thank the enthusiastic coaches that came to deliver the clinics. This was a great preparation for Footy Fun day next Friday. Juniors will have another football clinic to look forward in Term 4.
FOOTBALL FUN DAY
Next Friday 16th September, which is also our last day of school, students and staff will participate in Footy Fun Day. We ask that students come dressed in their footy team’s colours but remember they will be participating in sports activities so they will need runners and comfortable clothes. Seniors may need a change of socks and maybe even clothes depending on the state of our oval.
The day will run as follows:
9.00 Grade 5/6 House Football Matches (A trophy will be awarded to the winning House)
10.00 Grade ¾ House Football Matches (A trophy will be awarded to the winning House)
10.50 KFC Fun Lunch (Thanks to P&F)
11.30 Junior Footy Rotational Activities
12.50 Staff vs Grade 6 Football Match (May the best team win!!)
1.30 Dismissal for end of term
When students are inside their Learning Spaces, they will be participating in indoor football activities.
