Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful community day we had on Friday celebrating all of our Fathers and special father figures at St. Joseph’s. It was such a show of the strength of our community and how important it is to ensure we have opportunities to celebrate and be with our precious children.

Fathers and father figures play a critical and distinct role in children’s lives and the evidence demonstrating fathers’ potential to positively influence their children’s health, social success and academic achievements is indisputable.

Current research shows that targeted and universal interventions aimed at promoting positive parenting behaviours and fathers’ engagement increase fathers’ involvement, significantly improve child outcomes, and prevent harmful and anti-social behaviours.

Sam Champion our guest speaker spoke so well about the need for three things for our children using the acronym of B U S.

Be present with them

Unconditional positive regard always

Special- make sure they know you think they are special

We are appreciative of the support the Mornington Peninsula Shire provide in funding the Fathering Project. We look forward to celebrating our dads and dad figures each term with an event and ensuring they know just how important they are in the healthy development of their child.

A huge thank you to Peter Whyte, Matt and many other staff who assisted with the afternoon.

Days like these just make us appreciate and treasure our families. We keep the Leyonhjelm family in our thoughts and prayers in this tragic time. The funeral for their much loved Jay will be held at 1pm this Friday. Many of our staff have expressed an interest in attending and if any parents can collect their children at 12 on Friday it would be greatly appreciated.

A huge congratulations to Lily and Luella who have won a National STEM award in Catholic Education. We are so proud of the girls and all they have achieved.

I am heading away on two weeks Long Service Leave and leave the school in the capable hands of my Deputy Principals Sue Jackson and Peter Whtye. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact leadership@sjcribpoint.catholic.edu.au and I will return in Term 4 to continue to work in partnership with you to ensure your children shine and flourish in all that they do.

Yours in Partnership,

Gab
