Naming Conventions

When setting up Learning Tasks

All Learning Tasks are to adhere to the following strict naming conventions and are to include a specific one-two sentence descriptor.

  1. Title (type of task eg. test, assignment, essay, practical)
  2. Assessment Task description (in the present tense)

E.g. Title 

  •  Assessment Task: Test - Whole Numbers

E.g. Descriptor 

  • Students complete a topic test on whole numbers.

 

These naming conventions have been developed to accommodate F-10, VCE - VM and VCE subjects and their assessments. If your subject does not fit into these naming conventions, discuss with Leadership Team.

 

Instrumental Music

  • E.g.  Assessment Task: Performance Practice

Descriptor - Students prepare works of music for presentation. These works are in a variety of styles with the goal of extending their abilities and understanding of performance practice. Pieces can be performed unaccompanied or with live/pre-recorded accompaniments.

 

07-10 Naming Conventions

FORMATIVE TASKS (NON-REPORTABLE)

E. g.

 

Progress Task: Pre-Test - Integers

Students complete a topic pre-test on integers which covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of positive and negative integers, common multiples and factors.

 

Progress Task: Chapter Questions – Directed Numbers

Students complete a range of challenging problem-solving questions based on the game of golf involving the use of directed numbers.

 

Progress Task: Close Analysis - Poetry 

Students write a sustained interpretation of the ideas explored in Sylvia Plath's collection of poetry.

 

For Progress Tasks you can report using the following grading performance % or S/N.

SUMMATIVE TASKS (REPORTABLE)

Assessment Task: Finished Artwork - Cubism

Students plan for and produce a finished artwork inspired by the Cubist movement.

 

Must include the following grading choices:

  1. %, Absent, Not Assessed, Not Submitted (ref to Assessment for Learning handbook)
  2. Victorian levels & Capabilities

E.g. 

Assessment Task: Test - Whole Numbers

Students complete a topic test on manipulating whole numbers using the four operations, including estimating and rounding.

 

E.g.

Assessment Task: Semester 1 Exam

Students complete an exam on content they have covered in Semester 1. Topics include organelles, plasma membrane, homeostasis, body systems and ethics. The exams include multiple choice and short answer questions.

VCE and VCE - VM Specific Guidelines

Staff are to refer to:

  • the appropriate subject study design for specific information regarding VCE assessment and reporting  https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/curriculum/vce/Pages/Index.aspx,/
  • the Macleod College Senior School Handbook and VCE Outcomes Practice Policy for details regarding the school-based management of VCE performance, attendance, and assessment.
  • Students who are taking a VCE subject can receive an At Risk of “N” and a Final “N” Notification. Subject teachers must complete this form on the student’s Compass chronicle and it will be automatically emailed home. Details of this are in the Macleod College Senior School Handbook.

Units 1 and 2 Naming Conventions

 

SACS/SATS, OUTCOMES AND EXAMS (REPORTABLE)

  • Unit 1 Outcome 1: Creating and Responding (Description to be taken directly from the Study Designand should start withOn completion of this unit...
  • Assessment Task: SAC - Analytical Essay on ‘Tracks’ 
    Students produce a 700-800 word analytical interpretation of ‘Tracks'.
  • Assessment Task: Semester 1 Exam
    Students complete an exam on content they have covered in Semester 1. Topics include organelles, plasma membrane, homeostasis, body systems and ethics. The exams include multiple choice and short answer questions.
