GET VET (Vocational Education)

What is VET (Vocational Education and Training):

VET is study and training that enables a student to gain a qualification where students learn skills directly relating to a particular industry.  VET study includes the traditional trades, but it also encompasses many other different occupations and industries including business, retail, information technology, engineering, allied health, community services, early childhood education, design, animal care, laboratory techniques, cooking, hospitality, sport and recreation, horticulture and many more.

Benefits of VET:

  • VET can be studied while still at Secondary School (through the VET in Schools program)
  • VET contributes towards your VCE either as a study score or a block credit
  • A student can also study VET post-secondary school (such as a Certificate IV or Diploma) and use the qualification to either gain direct employment or use as a pathway to a Bachelor degree (with credit in most cases)
  • VET is taught by industry professionals and is recognised nationally
  • VET provides a direct industry qualification and skills that can keep you employed at all times

Employers value a VET Qualification because:

  • It contributes to the development of entry level skills for their Industry
  • It provides students with a practical and focussed introduction to workplace requirements

Our College is fortunate to have access to a comprehensive range of quality VET programs through our VET in Schools cluster where our students can choose and study from a variety of VET courses available (Certificate II or III) as part of their VCE studies.
