A Pastor who helps us smile

In many cultures and across several generations, determining school quality has focused either on student achievement, determined by students’ standardised test scores, or on the school’s graduation rate. What if, instead, the quality of a school was determined, at least in part, by its smile quotient.

A smile quotient is the number of students and staff who have a smile on their face as they work or learn and reflects the joy in a school. When the smile quotient in a school is high, it means that people generally enjoy being there; they are confident in their role and anticipate success; and they encounter others with a warm and welcoming attitude.

The physical act of smiling releases chemicals in our brain, increasing our levels of happiness and lowering stress, research suggests. Smiling is good for us, both physically and mentally.

I believe our college has a high smile quotient and one of the things that makes us smile a lot is Pastor Peter. He delivers every devotion and Chapel service with energy and passion. As Pastor Peter Janetzki and Mrs Julie Janetzki leave us during next term to embark on the next adventure, we thank them sincerely for all that we have become through their care and guidance.

Vale Reverend Peter Janetzki and Mrs Julie Janetzki

Juile and Pastor Peter joined the Good News College Community in 2016 and quickly became an important part of who we are. Having spent time in numerous schools and parishes, they brought with them a wealth of experiences and knowledge.  Hopetoun Parish, Strathalbyn Parish, Wagga Wagga Lutheran School, Wambro Living Waters Lutheran College (K- 12), Good Shepherd Lutheran College QLD (P - 12) provided the journey that led them to us.

Julie brought with her many years of teaching experiences and has therefore contributed to the learning and success of many of our students, through her work in the Learning Enrichment Program. Pastor Peter came with extensive experience in school ministry. His energy, passion and deep faith are evident in all he does. While he has the presence to have had a successful career on television or on the stage, we are very blessed that he appeared on the “Good News Stage” where we were often entertained, while hearing important messages.

On behalf of the entire community, I thank you both for all you have blessed us with and pray that he guides you safely into your next episode.
