What a busy and musical term our students have had – and we’re not finished yet!
James Morrison in Concert!
On Thursday 18th August the Symphonic Band students and all students learning brass instruments (trumpet and trombone) were invited to Blackburn High School to attend a performance by world-renowned Australian jazz trumpeter, James Morrison.
At the beginning of lunchtime we walked to Blackburn High School and watched James perform on trumpet, flugelhorn (with the Blackburn High School Big Band and Clarinet Ensemble), followed by a piano performance with his touring trio featuring Blackburn High School alumni Ollie Shute (Drums) and Anton Schulz (Bass). James concluded on trombone with help from his trio and Blackburn High School faculty Steve Sedergreen (piano) and Lucas Michailidis (guitar).
In between songs James spoke to the students about jazz music and improvisation ('making up' the music as you play), and told stories about his life performing and touring the world. The students (and staff!) were blown away by a truly world class performance by one of the best musicians in the country - such a great experience for all our the BPS music students!
Music Share
We have had so many wonderful and varied performances from students throughout the term and I commend every performer for 'having a go' and every audience member for listening respectfully and displaying exemplary etiquette. I look forward to sharing some 'Music Share' photos in our next newsletter.
A reminder that students in Grades 1-6 can look in their Music Showbie folders (see 'Music Share' assignment) to locate when they are scheduled for Music Share. These lists are also displayed in individual classrooms.
Symphonic Band Assembly Performance
This Friday 2nd September, the Symphonic Band will perform at assembly. We'd love to see as many parents as possible at 2.45pm in the gym to support our band students.
A reminder that all assembly performances are listed on the BPS Compass calendar, so please use this resource to find out what is scheduled at assembly!
