Principal's Report

Wow! BOOK FUN DAY!

What an amazing day we had today and the most amazing experience for our children. So wonderful to be able to reintroduce these events to the school and our amazing community. The celebration of reading and what we enjoy and treasure about books was amazing to hear from the children.

I was totally amazed by the effort that people went to, it was great to see the number of children who dressed up as book characters and brought their books along to share. The sharing at the assembly had plenty of excitement and had a lovely community feel. Thank you to parents and carers who joined us to celebrate our Book Fun Day assembly. Keep your eye on our Facebook page for photos of some of the amazing costumes.

A huge thank you to  Lou Tribolet and the Literacy team for organising such an outstanding day for the children of BPS and to all the teachers for their creativity and fun costumes and the activities they prepared for the day to run as smoothly as it did.

We were also incredibly to have Claire Saxby today who was named the 2022 winner for Picture Book of the year for her book Iceberg.

UNIFORM

A reminder that BPS requires all students to wear school uniform to school. A uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the BPS community. Students are expected to dress in complete school uniform in a way that reflects a sense of pride in their school and themselves.

A reminder of our uniform expectations as we have seen a few items creeping in that are not part of the expected uniform this includes puffer jackets, non-BPS beanies and Sports clubs jumpers (including the BPS netball team), please remind your children of the expected uniform and the appropriate times to wear the other items.

Our uniform offerings can be found here -

NAPLAN RESULTS

Today we have received our first access to the 2022 NAPLAN results for BPS. The hardcopy results will begin being delivered from today and we will send these out to Year 3 and 5 families as soon as possible.

Again in 2022 our BPS results are very high and something as a community we should be very proud of. I am particularly very proud of our Year 3 and 5 children. I will share some more detail around these shortly. These results come as no surprise to me, as it confirms the amazing work our children and teachers have been doing and the focus of the school professional learning.

I would remind all families interpreting these results to consider the positives of your child’s achievements first and foremost. Education has no doubt been disrupted by COVID19. Furthermore, NAPLAN is Australia’s only standardised testing, and given it only happens every two years for each child from Years 3 – 9, it is a snapshot in time.

STUDENT ATTITUDE TO SCHOOL SURVEY

The results of the 2022 Student Attitudes to School Survey have been returned to the school by the Department of Education & Training. Each year this state wide survey measures the opinions of students in Years 4, 5 and 6 on a wide range of factors focussed on student relationships, wellbeing, and teaching & learning. We are really proud to share with our community that the 2022 results continuing to show strength in what we are doing across many survey scores.  As a staff we will continue to look at this data and unpack any trends or areas where we can improve our school.

SUNSMART POLICY

A reminder that as per our SunSmart policy from the 1st September to 30th April, and particularly given the fantastic weather over the last two days - ALL BPS students and staff are expected to wear hats during recess and lunch and for all outdoor activities, especially Physical Education.
