LIBRARY NEWS

Reading with your toddler

Creating a 'reader' and giving opportunity to develop pre-reading skills can never start early enough. Parents often don't know where to begin, but anything you can do to develop reading as a positive and worthwhile thing to do, from a very young age, can help support your child in reading development once they start school.

This flyer has some great tips to help you out with your toddler and Kindergarten children to inspire a love of reading, as well as set them up for the skills they need to access the Kindergarten curriculum.

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Date:  Monday 19 September (week 10)

What:  wear pirate gear and talk like a pirate

Why:  to share language and stories as another way to broaden vocabulary and knowledge and to just have some fun!

Ahoy, me hearties!, ye buccaneers, scallywags and ye old sea dogs, too.

Ye best have brushed up on your pirate lingo and have ye cutlass and eye patch ready to set sail and explore the high seas searching for loot and lost treasure.

Avast ye, me hearties, I hope ye be ready to plunder and pillage and be no lily-livered landlubber!

But no mutiny, ye hear?...or ye’ll need to walk the plank and find your way to Davy Jones locker to be shark bait. Savvy?

Shiver me timbers, I’ll be seeing you on Monday 19 September when we share our doubloons and treasure and be dressed in ye best pirate duds and hope we’re not marooned on a desert isle as we sail the seven seas.

Yo, ho, ho ye have a fair weather day. Ahoy, me mateys!
