This week has seen our school have a focus on leadership. While myself and Miss Nertney have been attending a Women in Leadership professional development our awesome Year 5’s have begun their formal leadership studies at their camp at Hamilton Downs.

At Living Waters we believe all students are leaders in the community and we endeavour to maximise their potential with multiple opportunities throughout the children’s schooling to practice and grow. We have worked together to define what a ‘Living Waters Student’ looks like at work and at play and how do they express this by demonstrating our 4 core values of Love, Service, Courage and Endeavour?

The formation document for Lutheran Education ‘Growing Deep’ tells us that a key responsibility of a leader is to grow the capacity of others. The document says it “involves growing the knowledge, skill and leadership capacity of others. It includes providing space for thoughtful reflection and support, as well as presenting effective learning opportunities that stretch the capacity of others.” So my challenge to our year 5’s as they begin to clarify what leadership is to them,  and as they choose which leadership position to apply for is: How will I serve others by growing the capacity of the future senior leaders of our school? How will I model leadership for future senior leaders? I am looking forward to working weekly with the 2023 leaders of our school next term.

I would lastly like to honour an inspirational woman leader who lead in a time when women were not able to be the CEO’s of the world and lead from the front, but rather lead from the shadows, Queen Elizabeth the second. Regardless of your politics her presence and performance as a leader is to be admired. In reading the  tributes  this morning the world is talking about how her knowledge of current affairs and countries in her commonwealth was extraordinary and that her contribution to the world has been great. What a great model to our leaders.
