VCAL and Advance have been taking part in the Onemda work skills program this week. They are learning about the 8 essential skills that are required to help them gain and maintain employment. Students are being encouraged to ask lots of questions and to think about what they will want to do outside of school. VCAL headed off to Melbourne Museum for the Road to Zero program where they learnt about road safety. The students enjoyed short films, and digital and interactive experiences while learning about the importance of being safe on the roads. Advance has been attending BRITE and the VSSL football clinics on Wednesdays.
Last Tuesday students attended the Auvaa Pati Incursion. Students from Hume College came to our school to play to each of the sub-schools. Students played instruments and sang. Our students and staff enjoyed these mini-concerts and were dancing and singing with them. It is great for our students to have these experiences especially to see students their age playing in a band. Thank you to Catherine for organising this incursion and I know we all hope they come back to play for us again.
Last Friday the school celebrated Wear it Purple day. It was great to see everyone dressed up in purple. Many rooms decorated their doors and windows for this day. Wear it Purple day helps students to learn about being inclusive of all people. Rooms 16 and 17 had their doors decorated and looked fantastic. Room 19 had a massive coloured in the heart on their wall – this looked amazing. Room 22 had decorated their door and also their windows. Thank you to everyone showing their support for this day.
The garden has been enjoying our changing weather this term. The rain and the sun are encouraging the veggies to grow. Unfortunately, the weeds have also been growing which means our students have been busy weeding the garden beds so there is enough room for our veggies to grow. Students always look forward to spending time in the garden and in the kitchen to cook some delicious foods – this week they have been making seed spheres in the garden and cooking carrot and sultana muffins in the kitchen. Thanks to Trish who helps with ensuring the kitchen and garden are both well looked after.
Hopefully this Friday we will be doing the Colour Fun Run. Students are looking forward to this. Father's day stall will also occur on this day.
Room 23 students are having a fabulous term and loving this warm change in the weather. We have been busy exploring our garden and looking at the amazing waterproof leaves of the plants. Our students have also enjoyed using microscopes to get a close look at bugs and plant life.
In our English sessions, students have explored a range of written texts including picture books, short stories, recipes, visual instructions, and PowerPoint presentations. It’s been particularly fun following written instructions to make various art creations such as colourful caterpillars on a leaf and cute dogs.
One of the best aspects of Term 3 has been the pride that our students have shown over their accomplishments in class. Everyone is doing a terrific job and the classroom team is very proud of the super work they do each day.
