What is the Disability Inclusion Profile?

On Monday 29th August, Natalie Conboy (Student Transition Coordinator), Lydia Lee (Therapy Leader) and I attended the Disability Inclusion Profile Workshop facilitated by PASS and hosted by the Department of Education and Training.

The workshop comprised members of specialist and mainstream schools to engage in information sharing and collegial discussion focussed on the Disability Inclusion Profile and its implementation within schools and the supports available.

The profile is a strengths-based process to help schools and families identify:

  • The student's strengths and needs
  • The educational adjustments schools can make to help students with disability

Disability Inclusion introduces a tiered funding model for students with disability with additional funding for schools to help students with disability take part in their education on the same basis as their peers.

The new model is based on a structured approach to funding that considers the diverse needs of students with disability.

The tiered funding model and Disability Inclusion Profile are being introduced through a staged roll-out over five years. Jacana School for Autism will engage in the process in 2025. The PSD process remains unchanged for our school until then.

The Department has developed a booklet for parents/carers which explains Disability Inclusion in Easy English. Please see the attachment below:

Every Day Counts

Jacana School for Autism supports our students to develop important skills, knowledge and values which set them up for further learning and participation in their community. The school places great importance on all students being at school on time, every day the school is open for instruction.

We understand that sometimes transitioning your child to school may be difficult for a variety of reasons. We support our school community by working with parents/carers and external services to improve student attendance and to discuss strategies that will support smoother transitions and school engagement.

If you would like to discuss strategies regarding attendance, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher and/or Sub-School Leader to arrange a meeting.

Alternatively, you may contact me directly to discuss any questions or concerns you may have related to your child's attendance.
