Year Adviser Updates

Years 10 and 11

Year 10

Parents and Guardians,

Year 10 students have continued to work diligently with their classwork and assessment tasks throughout Term 3. It is vital that the Year 10 students can sustain this productive work ethic. This will enable the students to develop a strong foundation for their senior studies. It is also crucial that NESA requirements are met for students to achieve their ROSA certificates and progress to their Preliminary and HSC courses next year.

To assist in the process of subject selections for their senior years, the students attended a year meeting in Week 8. Here students were informed of their choices with both Mr Costa and Mr Kwon informing the students of the pathways needed for university, TAFE or careers. The Head Teachers of each faculty also spoke to the Year 10 students about subjects they would be offering. Parents and guardians are encouraged to make contact with the school if they wish to receive additional information about subject selection to assist the student with their future decisions. Subject selection for senior years will be finalised in Week 9 following an interview process with Ms Encina.

The Year 10 students completed their VALID testing this term. This is an examination that assess the students’ scientific reasoning skills. Results should be posted to the students’ home address. Students also continued with their Minimum Standards where necessary.

Our Year 10 Wellbeing Ambassadors representatives were involved in the organisation and running of activities for the school community for R U Ok day. Overall, this initiative allowed the students to demonstrate their leadership skills and interpersonal skills.

The YES TAFE program will continue to run in Term 4. This provides opportunity for the students to complete introductory courses at TAFE. The students will attend TAFE one day a week for 9 weeks. Courses being offered are Hair & Beauty, Aviation, Nursing. Students are encouraged to sign up to the initiative. Further information can be sought from Mr Kwon or Mr Suljevic.

Year 11

Parents and Guardians of Year 11,

The final term of Year 11 has been a very busy one!

In Week 2, we had a group of students who are part of the Fast Forward program visit the campus of Western Sydney University to participate in mentoring activities with current university students and staff. Students were able to discover their learning style and their strengths that will aide them in starting to think about University courses. The students were wonderful ambassadors of James Busby High School and upheld the school values in a brilliant manner.

Early this term, we welcomed a number of Year 11 students to the Wellbeing Ambassadors program. It was great to see so many of our year group taking responsibility as seniors to become role models and leaders. In Week 7, our Year 11 Wellbeing Ambassadors represented our school at the Western Sydney University 2022 Australian of the Year School Students’ Forum.

In Week 7, the brand new Prefect Body of 2023 was announced. We had a total of 15 students present speeches in the hope of becoming part of the leadership team. With the votes being so close, and with such a high calibre of candidates, we were very proud to see all 15 students successful! We are overjoyed with this result and can’t wait to see what an impact these students have on the school.

With Preliminary exams coming to an end, we would like to acknowledge the academic efforts of Year 11 students. We are very proud of the mature manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the exams. We acknowledge that this may have been a stressful time for many of our students, so we hope they enjoy their well-deserved break.

We can’t wait to welcome our students back in Term 4 as they officially begin their HSC course!
