Student Learning Progress Meetings - Term 3

Please be advised that the booking cycle for student learning progress meetings for Term 3 is now open for all classes and grades. These meetings are an integral element to the ongoing learning growth and attainment of all students, and student learning, current academic goals and strategies to support at home will all be discussed at the meetings. These meetings will take place between Weeks 8 and 10 of Term 3.

Parents can use the Compass app to book an appointment with their child's teacher/s. The attached pdf gives an explanation for how to book an appointment if you are unsure on how to do this. Parents of students in 5CG will book an appointment with Mrs Gippel, but both Mrs Clarke and Mrs Gippel will be present at these meetings.

The booking cycle will be open to parents until Friday 26th August. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to come into school and hear about the growth and development of your child's learning here at St Edward's.

Year 4 English: Descriptive Writing

The Boy and the Elephant, created by Freya Blackwood, has been an engaging text for Year 4 to explore this week. The book is completely wordless, but the detailed illustrations are able to tell an emotive and inspiring story.

Students were tasked with writing descriptive paragraphs based on one of the pages from the text, and a selection of their work can be viewed below. By adding ambitious vocabulary and descriptive phrases, Year 4 were able to demonstrate their impressive writing skills:

Year 2 Maths: Conservation of Area

Do you know what the conservation of area means? If not, come and ask the mathematicians in Year 2 and they can explain it to you! Year 2 used MAB blocks as uniform, informal units to investigate whether the area of a shape would change if they rearranged the shape.

By calculating the area of a piece of A5 paper using MAB blocks, they were then able to create a new shape by cutting their paper and sticking it back together in a different orientation.

To our surprise, even though the shape looked completely different, the area had not changed!!
