National Science Week 2022 - ‘Glass: more than meets the eye’

Last week we celebrated National Science Week. The school theme for National Science Week in 2022 is Glass: More than meets the eye. It is based on the UN International Year of Glass. It celebrates the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens to optical fibre to glassware in labs – plus investigating glass as a part of our sustainable future. The library featured a display celebrating all things glass including solar energy, recycling, architecture and art featuring glass.

Glen Eira Council - My Brother Jack Awards

The Awards recognise the outstanding literary achievements of people who live, work or study in Glen Eira. Prizes are awarded for short stories and poetry in the categories of Primary; Junior Secondary; Senior Secondary; and Open. More information can be found here. The My Brother Jack Awards are a celebration of local writing talent and the stories that shape our community. We would love to see as many entries as possible from GEC students. There are some fantastic prizes to be won! Students can talk to their English teacher or library staff if they’d like to know more.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Challenge closes on 2nd September. Students need to log their books to complete the Challenge. We have had many students already complete the challenge and many books read! All students who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers and go into a draw to win prizes. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information, visit www.education.vic.gov.au/prc. Students can contact library staff if they have any questions or issues.
