From the Principal Team
At the half way point of the term I want to thank parents for supporting us in continuing to make the college a happy and safe environment for your children.
Since returning from lockdowns, we have been providing extra support to our students in their learning, their wellbeing and particularly their capacity to interact socially again.
We have had a focus on routines and expectations, to aid our students’ reengagement to schooling and the school environment.
By and large our students are always respectful and considerate. On the occasions where students have not met expectations we have strong processes in response and in some cases we work closely with the Department of Education and external agencies to resolve concerns.
Working closely with our parents is vital to ensure the best outcome for all our students in these situations.
We are also supporting students in the following ways;
- Supervision and support during lunch times, recess, before and after school
- Year level coordinators are available to support students in their learning and wellbeing
- Students can make appointments with the wellbeing team
- Education programs – mental health and wellbeing programs and community police presentations
I am always happy to hear from parents if you would like to discuss concerns or feedback.

Course Counselling
Thank you to all our families who attended our information evenings for VCE and Year 9 and 10 subjects selections. Course counselling continues this week as we look to timetable subjects and resolve clashes. Please contact the college if you have any queries or concerns.

School for Student Leadership
I am pleased to advise that six students have been selected to attend the School for Student Leadership in 2022.
The School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students.
The School for Student Leadership offers a fully residential program for one school term in a purpose-built facility. During their nine week stay, students will live and work in a very close environment with their peers. There are challenges and lessons on human relationships that will arise from this lifestyle. Great friendships are made, tolerance is learned and teamwork and leadership is created.
Congratulations to the six students from GEC who have been selected to attend:
Angus McNeil
Daisy Merrifield
David Scott
Emma Blair
Hasini Teddu
Nathan Loyer
Japanese Visitor
We were delighted to welcome Mr Koji Hirano, the principal of Seiyro High School in Ogaki last week. Glen Eira is the sister city of Ogaki in Japan. Koji brought letters from the Principal of Seiwa Junior High School and the Ogaki International exchange Association. We will work with both organisations in coming days to explore the resumption of exchanges between the two countries.
