Careers Corner
Year 10
On Thursday we organised for all Year 10 students to attend a presentation from four of our former GEC Alumni who came to the school to talk about their experiences and memories from school. Anna, Nick, Maria and Andrew all shared their stories about transitioning from university to work and the types of careers they are currently in, as well sharing advice to all the students. It was great to see the students asking questions and engaging in their stories, knowing that these alumni were once sitting in the same seats as they currently are.
After our Alumni presentation we had Amanda from JobWatch come in to present to the students about their rights at work. This was an important presentation for our students to understand what they are entitled to at work, their basic rights as an employee and what they can do and who they can speak to when they aren’t sure if they are being treated fairly.

Work Experience
Several our Year 10 students are currently still searching for work experience placements for 17th – 21st October. Work experience is an important time for each student to learn more about careers they are interested in and learn more about what they enjoy in the workforce. This is also a good opportunity for students to gain experience in a professional environment and learn how to network and gain new skills which they can add onto their resume.
If there are any employers who are open to taking on work experience students from 17th – 21st October, please feel free to contact me on heather.palm@education.vic.gov.au
