Foundation (Prep)

Week 6

>> Hi Prep C parents, so sorry my newsletter publication didn't save before publishing last week! I put lots of effort into it! If you'd like a copy of any pictures from our work last week, please email me! <<

Next week (Week 7) is my last week with Prep C! We will have a little class party on Friday afternoon so bring something little if you'd like to share :)

Athletics day is on Thursday! (our first time one a bus!)

Also, book week on Friday so please dress up if you feel you would like to!

Inquiry:

We have been speaking about fire safety! We spoke about where we see flames, what good fires vs bad fires are, and what we do if we see or smell a fire close by. We revised calling 000 and talked about meeting in a safe place if we see or smell a fire. We also talked about 'stop, drop, cover and roll' in the event that their clothes catch fire! and created an evacuation plan of our own houses!

In Literacy this week:

This week we have been focusing on the letter 'Ee' - for egg! and the sound 'er' - as in ladder. We had fun wandering around the room to find 'er' words to add to the board, using whiteboards to practise writing 'e' words, creating Emus for around the room and describing our jellyfishes using interesting adjectives.

Our focus book this week is: Edward the Emu and Edwina the emu.

Our focus has been summarising stories and retelling the main ideas. For example: the beginning, the middle and the end of the story. We have also begun rereading and editing our own work by using a red pencil to underline word in our work that we are not sure of so we can get our thoughts down and come back to them after

In Maths this week:

We have been learning about the size of different containers and how much they can hold (capacity).

Capacity in the sandpit:

We revised counting by 2s, 5s and 10s and learned the jump strategy using number lines to consolidate our subtraction understanding. We have a great understanding of subtraction now!

Fun with Subtraction:

** Please bring your blue reader folder on a Monday (we endeavour to change our readers on a Monday and also alternate each week between testing magic words OR running records to level up in our reading).

*** Lunch order day is Thursday!

**** Don't forget Canteen money, tennis and Library bags on Fridays!
